Sometimes you are bored with military modeling. Sometimes you feel that your diorama need a "civilian touch". Manufacturers hear your voice and add civilians to their catalogues. ToRo Model of Poland released kit 35F50 East European Old Farmer sculpted by Maciej Koncerz Pawlica in 1:35 scale. Figure is based on character of Jakub Wędrowycz created by Andrzej Pilipiuk.
The kit is packed in sturdy box with picture of painted figure on top. Box-art label is also used as a seal for the box. The box contains eight parts cast in light cream resin secured in zip-lock bag and a leaflet with pictures of assembled and painted figure. The kit is secured with foam.
Legs are cast with torso. Pouring tabs are placed on sols so removing them will be easy. The cast is very clean and very small seam line is present on the inner side of legs.
Arms are cast separately. Left one is cast with hand and right without. Right hand is cast holding pitchfork. At this point I must say that removing pitchfork from tabs has not been so difficult. Resin is quite flexible and with minimum care taken I removed it from tabs.
The next element cast separately is head and hat. Face seems to represent old man tired with harsh life condition and alcohol and has nice details. Manufacturer provides full head so you can leave your farmer bald.
Ushatka hat is well cast too, but some more work will be required as casting tab is placed on top of the hat.
The last two parts are top of bottle to be glued in farmerís left pocket and axeís blade for axe that farmer has by his belt.
All parts are cast very well. I didnít find any air bubbles holes either. Casting blocks are quite small. All parts have good and crisp details and proportions are good. The usage of this kit is almost unlimited thanks to versatile combination of quilted jacket, ushatka-hat, pitchfork and axe. It fits to most part of 20th century timeframe.
A very well done and useful kit with broad range of uses. Natural pose, high quality cast, easy to assemble and interesting subject are advantages of the kit. East European Old Farmer should look very good as a part or a centerpiece of diorama or even standalone miniature.
