B-24J Exterior set
Eduard's 1:48 scale B-24J exterior set comes in the usual small plastic bag from the Czech manufacturer. It is composed of one photo etched fret protected by one cardboard sheet to prevent the content from bending. An A5 sized instruction sheet is provided as well.

The PE fret is very nicely done and quality wise there is nothing to complain about. Details are crisp and very well rendered. There are about 90 parts provided which will allow you to ameliorate some aspects of the model:
- wind deflectors for the lateral gunner positions.
- ignition wires for the engines.
- new landing gear bay covers
- new details for the landing gear legs, including brake lines.
- inside structure for the wheel bays.
- new exhausts for the turbo superchargers.
- etc...

Some plastic will have to be removed from the original model's surface to make room for the new metal parts. This is well explained in the accompanying instructions.

While I have nothing to say about the quality of the product which is excellent, the price of $34.95 is a little bit too much in my opinion. Other than the very nice gear doors and the structure of the wheel bays, there is nothing a skilled modeller couldn't scratchbuilt himself. Overall, I would only recommend this set to very lazy and very rich model kit builders.

Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - on AeroScale.
Highs: Excellent quality.
Lows: Price is too high.
Verdict: Recommended if the price is not a problem for you.

I don't think it has anything to do with being lazy at all. It all gets down to time and quality. Not all of us like to spend months on a kit scratch building features no one may ever see again. These sets allow you to add heaps of detail without taking heaps of time and frustration trying to build stuff yourself. I would rather finish a model and get to the next one.
