Quickboost Exhausts for BF-110 C/D

introduction

The BF-110 was supposed to be the next generation of long-range fighter aircraft when it was pushed on the Luftwaffe by Hermann Goering. Powered by two Daimler-Benz DB 601B-1 liquid-cooled inverted V-12s producing 1,085 hp each, the BF-110 proved to be too slow and insufficiently nimble to out-duel the better Allied monoplanes like the Spitfire and even the sluggish Hurricane.

Dragon has released 1/32nd scale models of the BF-110 C and D (essentially the same as the C, except for a slight increase in length and a belly fuel tank). To augment the kit, Quickboost has added an invaluable accessory: pre-drilled resin exhaust pipes. Having tried to drill out the styrene pipes on the kit parts with only limited success, I was thrilled to leave it to resin casting over straining my eyesight and bringing on arthritis in my hands.

the kit

It’s pretty straightforward: four sets of pre-drilled exhausts on a resin casting base. There are no directions or painting guides; QB assumes you have worked with resin before and know what you’re doing. The detailing is sharp with a minimal amount of mold seams, though care should be taken in removing the parts from their base. One of mine broke into three sections and had to be carefully put back together on the model.

conclusion

The kit parts are simply unacceptable because they’re molded with the exhausts a solid piece of styrene. With 24 pipes to drill out, even the most-talented modeler would be better-off purchasing this upgrade. You don’t have to be a rivet counter to appreciate the huge reduction is time and effort this product offers you at a price well worth the saved time and hassle.
