Once you have completed a model, the most effective way to display it is on a base, in it's 'natural environment'. The ground underneath and around trees and shrubs is generally covered in a thick layer of old leaves and twigs, and even more so during the Autumn and Winter. To re-create this feature many modellers use a variety of items, from leaves from the garden to dried herbs from a jar, or have to look at commercially available (railway)scenic products, which don't always look realistic, or in scale. An easy solution to this is now offered by new company, Treemendus, who produce a line of tree and scenic materials specifically aimed at scale modelling.
The product comes packed in a ziplock bag, sealed by a small cardboard header card which shows the company name on the front, and the product name on the back. There is enough product in the bag to create a few individual display bases, or to make one large diorama. This bag of scatter contains an excellent variety of leaf debris, with a good range of colour and shade, and sized from very small to 'just fallen off the tree'. Also included are a number of small twigs and some dried roots, and together the contents of this bag can create a very realistic undergrowth for a diorama or a simple display base.
The price is quite high for what is in effect a bag of scrunched up leaves, but I know from experience that is is not as easy as it looks to collect and prepare debris from your garden (if you have one), and achieve the excellent multi coloured and textured effect that this product has.
The contents could not be easier to use, you apply an appropriate glue, shake the scatter in place, leave to dry and remove the excess. When you apply this product to a base, the result is very effective, and will add instant depth and variety to a base or diorama.
Highs: Very realistic effect which is easy to apply. Lows: The price, although the product is very good, the cost may be a turn off.Verdict: Highly recommended.
