Introduction
Eduard's Fokker Dr.1 kit was first released in a special "Richthofen Brothers" edition (see review of "Der Rote Flieger" here) which included two aircraft (a triplane and an Albatros D.V). Then came the Dual Combo edition (see review Here) which provided parts to do two Fokkers. The last release to date is the "Weekend" edition of the kit which is the first boxing to include one aircraft only. I know this is the norm for these simplified boxings, but sadly the kit doesn't has the additional photoetched parts which are present in the first two releases. So, if you want to include them into your model nevertheless, you will need to buy this extra "Zoom" sheet produced by Eduard.

The set

Eduard's "Zoom" range is destined to modelers who want to include basic details to their kits. Only the most important parts, which are impossible to do in injected plastic, are provided on the fret. In the case of this Fokker Dr.I Weekend these are:
- Seatbelts
- Parts to improve the two Spandau machine guns
- Parts to improve the cockpit interior (instruments, placards, levers etc...)
- Push rods for the rotary engine.
- Lacings
- A metal hoop for the engine cowling
- Underside access panels (two variants)
- Small surface details in relief.

As you would expect from Eduard, the quality of this photoetched fret is very good. Some of the parts are pre-painted (seatbelts, placards and instruments). The ignition wires may look not very realistic because they are flat but it is possible to improve them by applying several layers of white glue on them.

One small acetate sheet is also provided for the small windscreen located between the two Spandau guns. Two variants are provided.

The black & white instructions are printed on a single sheet of A5 size paper. They are nicely done and easy to follow.

Conclusion

This is a nice little PE set which will allow you to slightly improve the overall level of detail of the "Weekend" Fokker Dr.I kit. While the price seems ok at first sight, once added to the initial cost of the kit, I can only wonder what the advantage is to buy a "Weekend" kit and a "Zoom" set? Together, the cost (36,90$) is almost the same (39,95$) as the "Dual Combo" kit which offers two kits and much more markings options. I can only recommend this set to modelers who have already purchased a "Weekend" kit. To the others, the "Dual Combo" is a far better option.
SUMMARY
Highs: Nice improvement over the original kit.
Lows: Added to the cost of the Weekend kit, it is too expensive when compared to the Dual Combo boxing.
Verdict: Only recommended if you already have the Weekend kit of the Fokker Dr.1. Otherwise, go for the Dual Combo boxing.

I have to agree.....Price wise for a few dollars more...the dual combo offers so much more. Another think I dont understand...why the kits are released then the PE weeks later? Because of this I never bought their 109E1....I couldnt keep my hands off till the PE came out, now new things *Wingnuts* have grasped my attention so it's probably a sale lost.....saying that the E4 is out soon *washes mouth out with household soap for sullying the EA forum with WWII abominations

Uuuuhhh ok The advantages in the PE are 1. Spandau gun jackets and associated pieces that are a more accurate and detailed. 2. The chin pans are for the Dr. I and the F.I types. 3. The push rods are far more "inscale" than the plastic ones. 4. Gauge faces where there are none in the weekend kit. Maybe my e-mails were effective? I took them to task about releasing these kits without the PE option several months back.

The weekend kit will be around and easy to get for a long time . Having the option to get the PE set if one choose to do so is great . Not to many parts but enough to add detail that doesn't come with the kit .

The "Bosch" starting magneto PE 4 they include (that they tell you to put near the pilot's foot) is bogus. It was designed for inline motors not rotary engines. The small roatry starter mag is molded to the pilots left side fuselage at shoulder level.
