Under review here, we have a kit from the relatively new Russian miniatures firm called Authors Sculpt, appeared soon after Korean Seil Models closed down and engaging sculptors that used to work for Seil in the past.
This kit is a 54mm Samurai figure, sculpted by Talant Soodanberov, and is the first foot kit from this company.
Packing – First Impression
The box is a relatively small carton one , with nice graphic printed surface and an unpainted version of the constructed kit photograph as a box art.
As we open , there is a plastic bag with space for the 10 parts of the kit . The box is strong enough to carry the figures with no problem of damage.
The Kit (what’s in the box)
The kit comes in a medium grey color resin material and as it was told of 10 pieces
Body, 2 arms, helmet , 2 pieces of armor, one decoration for the helmet, 3 pieces for the sword and case of it.
In my box there was not a base included, but this is not a problem to my eyes.
Included also there is a 4 pages small leaflet, with colored illustrations of samurais in different dressing schemes, to help the painter in his work.
Quality – Detail
The first thing that comes in mind is that the casting, is really crisp , accurate , clean and in one term “really nice “
I tried really hard to find some holes or air bubbles or other imperfections, but could not find any.
There is minimal cleaning to do for this kit, and most of the work will go to remove the casting blocks of the pieces and smoothing out the joints with some sand paper.
This means that with minimal preparation you will be able to prime and start painting.
The pose of the Samurai is a classic one, with the two hands holding the sword
on the head level of the warrior , and preparing a lethal hit.
What is really impressive, is the amount and precision of detail on this little figure, that really will be showed off with the proper and careful painting.
This is one more nice first effort for Author’s Sculpt with foot Samurai, which above all is expertly sculpted.
I would ask for a painted version as a box art,as motive and inspiration to the modeler, but I think that the colored illustrations included can also be a lot of help.
Finally, High quality casting , good detail sculpted and a theme that is always in “fashion” make this kit a good option for painting.
Highs: High level of detail , classic pose Lows: No base , no painted box art sample Verdict: Recommended

I started modelling 27 years ago with some 1/72 planes and military vehicles. Soon the diorama bug got into me and with Sheperd Paynes books I dug in. I loved to build dioramas and military vehicles till the Vietnam Era. I don't like modern stuff so much. 4 years ago I had a crush on figure painti...
