Legend Productions has dipped their toes and now jumped in the deep end when it comes to 1/35th scale small arms weapons systems. These small arms offerings are 3D scanned and then cast in resin in order to provide highly accurate representations for the modeller to satisfy their need for accurate and well detailed elements on their models or with their figures. The item I am looking at here from Legend Productions is the 84mm Carl-Gustaf Twin Containers and Ammunition Set and is one of four 84mm Carl-Gustav sets released so far.
The following portion of the introduction is from the SAAB.com website:
The Carl-Gustaf system is a true multi-role, man-portable shoulder-fired weapon.
A weapon's multi-role capacity can mean the difference between combat success and failure. The highly versatile Carl-Gustaf system is a true multi-role, man-portable shoulder-fired weapon. The system offers the soldier various types of ammunition, ranging from armour penetration and anti-personnel, to ammunition for built-up areas as well as special features like smoke and illumination.
Legend Productions is on a role and has started to tackle the 84mm Carl-Gustaf weapons system as a part of their 3D product line. There are four products thus far which are as follows:
LF3D065 – Carl-Gustaf twin containers and ammunition set
LF3D066 – 84mm Carl-Gustaf M3 multi-role weapons system
LF3D067 - 84mm Carl-Gustaf M4 multi-role weapons system
LF3D068 - 84mm Carl-Gustaf M4 multi-role weapons system with cover
This offering provides eight rounds of ammunition with two of each round provided. In addition to this there are four twin ammunition carriers of two differing lengths. All of the cases are open and the modeller is provided with the option of three caps for the containers. There are two styles of cap that allows the containers to be shown as closed. The third option is how the container would look if the cap was removed and of course you could use one of the lids open face down for the look of the thing. If you go for the open container you will need to steady yourself as some drilling will be required to provide a realistic look to both the container and the screw element. I do have a gripe and that is the carrying handles have been moulded as part of the resin and they would have been better as photo etched parts.
The eight rounds included with this release provides 2 rounds from each of the four groups of ammunition for the 84mm Carl-Gustaf weapons system and are suitable for both the M3 and M4 as they use the same ammunition. The rounds provided in this release are:
HEAT 655cs – Anti Armour
Smoke 469c - Support
HEDP 502 or HEDP 502rs – Multi-Role Anti-Structure
HE 441 D or HE 441D rs – Anti Personnel
The 84mm Carl-Gustaf in the M3 and M4 configuration are in use today with a wide number of users around the world. The M4 version is the latest type and started going into military service in 2015 with the Slovakian armed forces and is going into use with US military at the present time. The design approach is clever and providing a realistic looks to the containers. My only gripe is that I wish the handles had been supplied in photo etch.
