Brassin L-29 Delfin Wheels
Brassin Wheels for the Aero L-29 Delfin

by: Rowan Baylis [ MERLIN ]

When Eduard re-released AMK’s L-29 Delfin under their own banner, they added colour photo-etched upgrades, painting masks and new decals, but went with the stock styrene parts for the landing gear. Now, as an aftermarket set for the kit, they’ve produced a beautifully detailed set of replacement resin wheels.

The upgrade arrives neatly presented in one of Eduard’s familiar blister packs, with the resin parts well protected by a soft foam backing to withstand any knocks in transit.

There are just four parts in total, with the mainwheels and nosewheel cast in grey resin, and a replacement nosewheel fork cast in pale cream. Perhaps this indicates a denser resin was used for the fork to carry the load safely.

The casting is perfect in the review sample, with no flaws evident and minimal clean-up required. The wheels are cast “weighted” with the main pour-stub on the flat spot, and just tiny secondary attachments to either side on the mainwheels. The new wheel fork will need a little more preparation, trimming around where it attaches to its casting plinth, but it should still only take a minute or two.

The Brassin parts completely eclipse the AMK originals with much better detail all 'round, from the treads and sidewall ribs and maker’s logos on the tyres, to the brakelines and inflation points on the mainwheel hubs. Meanwhile, the new nosewheel fork is not only more delicate than the styrene version, but also noticeably different in shape, making the original look quite clumsy by comparison.

Eduard have included a sheet of die-cut kabuki painting masks for the wheel hubs and a clearly drawn sheet of instructions. The new parts are direct replacements for the kit items, so no surgery is required to fit them. This would therefore be an ideal upgrade set for anyone new to working with resin.

Conclusion
Eduard’s Brassin L-29 wheels are beautifully produced and a major improvement over the kit originals. For less than a fiver in the UK, adding them certainly won’t break the bank – and the arrival of the sample set has provided a timely reminder that I must get back to work on my poor neglected Delfin!

Rowan, Thanks for the review - especially the kit vs. resin comparison pictures! they really show how the replacement parts are so much better than the out of the box wheels.
