It’s always good to see fresh schemes for the iconic C-47, and Iliad Design have produced an excellent set for anyone looking for something a little unusual by offering a selection of four interesting Air National Guard aircraft. Three of the schemes date back to the early post-war era, while the other illustrates the longevity of the C-47 in service by carrying the style of  markings introduced in the early 1960s.

The machines covered are:

C-47A, s/n 0-92079 of the Puerto Rican Air National Guard
VC-47A, s/n 315568 of the Virginia National Guard, circa 1948
C-47A, s/n 315555 of the Nebraska National Guard, 1947-48
C-47A, s/n 330691 of the New Mexico National Guard, 1947-48

The decals are excellent quality, with the thin and glossy items showing precise registration and crystal clear carrier film. The colours look good, with deep Insignia Blue and Red - very different from the garish interpretations some other decal producers go for.

The instructions are well produced in full colour with profiles on the front and plan views on the reverse. The captions are brief and informative, highlighting points of interest for each aircraft where appropriate, such as aerials and carburetor intakes.

Conclusion
Iliad’s ANG C-47 markings are excellent and offer a refreshing change from the more common schemes that most kits offer as standard.
SUMMARY
Highs: Excellent quality decals for some very attractive colour schemes.
Lows: None noted.
Verdict: If you're looking for something a little bit "different" for a C-47 scheme, this could be just the ticket.

I've been modelling for about 40 years, on and off. While I'm happy to build anything, my interests lie primarily in 1/48 scale aircraft. I mostly concentrate on WW2 subjects, although I'm also interested in WW1, Golden Age aviation and the early Jet Age - and have even been known to build the occas...
