Leonardo Da Vinci was a man before his time. Known primarily as a painter Da Vinci had an inventive imagination. Academy has developed a series of model kits based on his inventive drawings from the late 1400ís. The Arch Bridge is a self-supporting arch bridge that distributes the weight through the full curve of the arch. The simplicity of this bridge requires no skill or extra manufactured parts. All that is needed is logs, planks, and an axe.

This is kit number 9 in the Da Vinci series. The kit has a small part count compare to some of the kits in the series and does not require any glue or painting. Included in the kit are 4 sprues, 2 base platforms, and a storage box, which I found to be a nice little touch. The total part count is 24 plastic parts, a majority of which are logs. There was no flash on any parts and the wood colored plastic looked realistic. The instructions allow for two builds, an elementary level and an advance level build. Simply put, the advance level adds two more sections to the arch bridge. The instructions were easy to follow making the build quick. Interlocking the logs in a set pattern the bridge goes together very nicely. Be careful, as the arch bridge gets longer it is easier to knock the logs out of the notches causing the bridge to collapse. The attached video shows how easy it is to construct the arch bridge.

I have to admit doing research on this kit has really opened my eyes to some of the fantastic designs Leonardo Da Vinci has done. It really makes you think how simple logs and nothing else can build a complex bridge. Academy has produced another great Da Vinci kit for all ages. When you are finished playing with it you can store all the parts in the supplied storage box that looks like a chest. My thanks to MRC for supplying this kit for review.
Highs: Storage box for parts is a nice touch.
Lows: None
Verdict: Nice educational kit, very easy build for all ages.
