AH-64 Apache Detail Set

by: Joe Szczygielski [ MOTHER ]

Contents
This is the Verlinden resin/photo etch detail set for the Revell/Monogram 1/32nd Apache, kit # 4575. It comes in their standard camouflage cardboard box. The kit contained 38 resin internal/external pieces, 152 photo-etched pieces, plus 16 Hellfire missiles. Each of the parts are well detailed without any blurbs and air bubbles, most were also flash free making cleanup much easier.

Parts Breakdown
The pilots' seats are nicely cast, but don’t have molded-on harnesses, so you’ll have to add them yourself as they are not provided with the kit. Separate from the pilots' seats, the four side armor protection plates are included. There are 3 avionics bays; one on each side of the front sponsons and the third on the starboard side tail section. All the panel doors are replaced with photo etched parts and come with handles and hinges. The ammo bay consists of three pieces; bay, ammo box and panel door. The 30mm gun is nice, but it lacks some of the detail. There are 64 photo-etched fins that will have to be attached to the Hellfire missiles.

Also included for the cockpit are18 pieces for the Integrated Helmet and Display Sight System. The two helmets that are included for this system look more like your standard helicopter helmets than the ones worn by the Apache pilots. Verlinden also included the detail of the front nose mounted Designation Sight and Pilot Navigation System, canopy wiper blades, wire cutters and blade antennas. The only problem I found was that the instruction sheet was vague along the way, especially during the installation of the Integrated Helmet and Display Sight System. I would strongly suggest having some reference books on hand. I would recommend this detail set to the more advanced modeler due to the fact that there are many openings that are needed to be cut out.

Conclusion
In conclusion I think it’s a wonderful detail set and, being that the 1/32 Apache is a large helicopter (over 18 inches long ), there is certainly plenty to look at.

To even further detail your Apache, Eduard /has an exterior photo etch set kit # 32 098 and an interior set kit # 32 097. Both price at $24.94 each. All sets can be found at MMD-Squadron
SUMMARY
The Apache is one of the most advanced helicopters in the US Army’s inventory. A heavily armed, two-seat ground support weapon system with a mission to seek and destroy enemy armored vehicles and strong points during the day, night or under adverse weather conditions.
