Jake Melampy has a new book coming out soon titled “The Early Viper Guide”, looking in depth at the early variants of the F-16. The book will be published by Reid Air Publications.
After 30 years of service, there finally is a book that thoroughly covers the early F-16 variants! Using 1009 full-colour photos spread over 196 pages, the Early Viper Guide takes the familiar theme from other titles in The Modern Guide Series and directs attention to the A/B models of the F-16. All A/B variants are extremely well-documented, including the Block 1, 5, 10, 15, 15 ADF, 15 OCU, 20, and the F-16 MLU. USAF, USN, and export versions are covered. Each of the Blocks and the nations flying them are compared and contrasted with photos and text describing the many differences among these earliest variants.
The Early Viper Guide is aimed primarily at the model builders, with a reference section showing all the details of the F-16 A/B including all major variants...Blocks 10, 15, 15 OCU, 20, MLU and ADF are covered, including coverage of the Block 15 NSAWC adversary jets.
Full cockpit coverage (Block 10, 15, 15 ADF, and MLU, front and aft cockpits), radar, avionics bays, gear, engines, PIDS+ pylon, ECIPS+ pylon, etc. are all covered.
There are a ton of small differences in the cockpits and around the airframe between these early versions (especially the 15 OCU and the Block 20), and the book covers them all. If you plan to mod the Tamiya kit into an A model or MLU, this book will really come in handy to make sure you get all the necessary changes.
