DN Models have released a great set of masks for the clear portions of Airfix's 1/24th F6F-5 Hellcat. An added bonus is masks for the wheels as well.
Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat Canopy, Wheels, Lights Paint Mask Set – Interior & Exterior 1/24th
Suggested scale - 1/24th
Suggested kits - Airfix F6F-5 #A19004
Price - $9.99
SKU - 24/827-001
Re-usable die-cut mask set – Both interior and exterior masks are included

The set includes two sheets of masks (shown in the picture). The masks are made from thin masking tape, which is easy to be peeled off and doesn’t leave any stains. The tape is tested on clear and painted model too. If carefully removed after painting, they can be used over and over again. Material is flexible and easily applied over curved surfaces. Semi-transparent for easy and accurate placing.

The Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat canopy, windows and wheels paint mask set is designed to be used with the clear parts of Airfix #A19004 kit. Both Interior and Exterior paint masks are included. The set is designed for the specific version of the Hellcat and the Airfix kit only. Despite lack of bulges on the inside of the canopy parts, masks fit perfectly and can help outline the interior features of the canopy frames. In 24th scale and with open canopy, Hellcat offers pretty large space that requires every detail to be shown properly, for which interior masks are indispensable.

The Airfix Hellcat is the second of the new line of Airfix kits produced in large scale and manufactured according to the new standards. Following Airfix 1/24 Typhoon versions, the British Model maker altered their old and obsolete products, slowly replacing them by a redesigned line of big scale and highly detailed models, one of which is the #A19004 F6F-5 Hellcat. Due to the size of such kits, decals are not recommended for various reasons. The single most important one is the realism of the completed model, which can be achieved easily by using masks instead of decals. Masks for scale models present the modeler with the opportunity to show weathered effects, scratches and color variations, which are impossible when using decals. That is valid especially for the insignia of the completed model, but goes for the canopy as well.
