UK Airfields Past and Present A Directory of Airfields in the British Isles from 1908 to 2018 by Grant Peerless is a new book published by Fonthill Media
A great number of books have been written over the years about individual airfields or those in particular counties and areas; however, UK Airfields Past and Present: A Directory of Airfields in the British Isles from 1908 to 2018 covers a good proportion of them in one publication such as Abbots Bromley to Zeals. It provides brief details of over 1,700 airfields from before the First World War to
2018 and describes the main activities carried out, based units, operators and current status. It includes military bases, civil airports/airfields, gliding sites, microlight sites and larger farm strips, together with the probable number of based aircraft. An appendix lists over 500 books, which have been published about individual airfields and this, together with the details provided in this book,
affords a convenient source of reference for further research. It does not pretend to include every flying site that ever existed as this would require a much larger volume, but covers what are considered to be the most significant airfields of the past 110 years. It includes over 100 photographs in colour and mono, most of which have not been published previously.

●Written by a life-long aviation enthusiast whose interest was kindled from an early age by living on the approaches to Hatfield and Radlett airfields in the 1950s and 1960s
●Features many photographs by the late aviation photographer Richard Riding and his father, many of which have not been published previously
●Most airfields have at least one alternative name and this work includes a comprehensive index as a cross-reference. It also contains a list of books that have been written about individual airfields to enable the reader to carry out in-depth research on particular sites
