It would seem there is a cloud on the horizon with Meng Models release of the 1/32 scale Fokker Dr.1 with Richtofens bust, it will be a limited edition restricted to just a thousand kits

”More than one hundred years ago, Europe was in a state of devastation. Farms and pastures were ruined by shell craters and muddy water. Laughter in bars was replaced by people’s sobbing. Bank managers became soldiers hiding in the trenches and primary school teachers plunged bayonets into others’ chests. Everyone on the battlefield was surrounded by the angriest roars and the most vicious curses. But even in the desperate twilight, there was one gem shining brilliantly. Its brightness was so dazzling that it’s still remembered by the once warring parties. Manfred von Richthofen, the cavalry officer who learn to fly in 1915, became the top-scoring ace of World War I by winning 80 air combat victories in less than two years. His iconic red aircraft was well known to both warring parties. The Germans rejoiced in it, and the Allies were convinced by his exquisite combat skills and precious chivalry. As a legend, his death was dramatic because of the bizarre possibilities. The story of the “Red Baron” has gone across time and beyond hatred and is still being told today.
The QS-002s Fokker Dr.I Triplane “Red Baron” is a limited edition product based on the MENG QS-002 Fokker Dr.I Triplane kit. This kit includes a 1/10 resin bust of the “Red Baron” Manfred von Richthofen and a Fokker Dr.I Triplane kit. This Manfred von Richthofen bust features calm and confident facial expressions. The figure wears a leather flight jacket over the Imperial German Army uniform. He wears an M1910 Officer Visor Cap on his head and a Blue Max medal on the neckline. This is the most well-known image of the “Red Baron”. This product is limited to 1,000 kits.”

it'll be hard to keep them on shelf at that price. There are quite a few schemes that I like. Not a big footprint even in 1/32 scale.

I think you’re right, they’ll sell fast and well, if that’s the US price. And the footprint is indeed small, taking up about the same or less space than a 1/48 Thunderbolt, Mustang, ME109 or Spitfire. Just to “prime the pump”, or “whet the whistle”, here’s a look at the two Roden Kits I built a few years back at LSP— Roden’s kit is certainly not the easiest kit to build, but it’s not a bad kit, just a bit overpriced. I trust this WnW heritage version will put the Roden kit in the background for both price and quality: LINK I wonder if Meng will follow on with the Lancasters, or any other WnW kits that were in the works. And if Meng was the producer of WnW kits, I wonder if they’re producing this kit in lieu of payment default for their molding and tooling— not that it matters much, but it would certainly say something about any hope in the future for PJ’s WnW enterprise. Hi all I was really excited by some of the prices being suggested here - but UK discounted pre-order prices are more in the region of £60+ for the standard kit and £80 with the resin bust. So, it's edging towards WNG price territory - and it may not come anywhere near in terms of decal options and quality. So, it's dropped a few steps down my priority list as an "instant grab"! I'm happy to wait and see. All the best Rowan

Unfortunately, Meng does not have the Lancaster molds.

Looks like the pre-order prices in the States are in the $70-80 range as well. Still, pretty much guaranteed to be the best Dr.I on the market, so we'll see. Michael

I’m contemplating it and I don’t do airplanes, much less WWI. And as for quality, the more you want, the more you pay. But then again, I’ve read elsewhere on the interweb that this is WNW’s kit in a Meng box, so quality should not be an issue. Your mileage may vary...

Through a discussion over on largescaleplanes.com it was mentioned that Meng was not in possession of those molds. Who does was not said.
