Fonthill Media has published a pictorial history of Ramsgate Municipal Airport by Anthony John Moor
Ramsgate Municipal Airport is rich with aviation history. The RFC used the site during 1914 and councillors proposed an airport be established and flying commenced in 1935. National Aviation Day was announced and a Flying Flea Rally took place in 1936. Crilly and Hillman Airways moved in and the airfield was extended in 1936 where flying holidays took place. In1937, Ramsgate Airport Ltd commenced services and the following year, the RAuxAF held summer camps, Thanet Aero Club joined the Civil Air Guard scheme and Southern Airways operated a service across the Thames Estuary. In 1939, the airfield reopened and during the Battle of Britain, it was heavily damaged in a bombing raid. In 1953, Air Kruise Ltd operated on a lease from Ramsgate Cooperation and flew to Europe. Skyphotos and Skyflights took over until 1958 and Chrisair advertised joyriding in 1960. Following their departure in 1963, East Kent Air Services formed in 1967; however, they were not successful. In 1968, Ramsgate Municipal Airport closed for good and developers took over.
