Available from Fonderie Miniature, here is an unexpected guest for the year 2007: a Levasseur PL 101 in 1/48 scale. I think modellers who like weird and ugly planes will like this one!
All I know about the Levasseur PL 101 is that it was a French carrier based biplane which was fitted with a fixed undecarriage but was nevertheless able to land safely on the sea!? Of course, once in the water, the plane couldn't take off. Weird I told you!
The Levasseurs served on the "Bearn" aircraft carrier until replaced by the Loire Nieuport LN 411 before the outbreak of WW2. However some were still used by the 2S3 and 2S4 in 1940!?

This kit by Fonderie Miniature is a real surprise. I didn't knew the French manufacturer was about to release a kit of this obscure aircraft (about 30 PL 101 were produced). Judging from the pictures, the kit seems to be typical of the short run manufacturer based in Aubervilliers:
- short run plastic injected parts
- Resin and white metal detail parts
- vacuform canopy

Having build a couple of FM models in the past, I can say that "some modelling skills" are required to get a nice model from their kits. However, who in the world is going to produce an injected multimedia kit of such an esoteric subject if not Fonderie Miniature? For that I say "Hats off!"

The kit is available from Fonderie Miniature and costs 59€.

Hi Steffen! Yes, Fonderie Miniature kits are difficult to build but if you take a look at the preview images, you will notice that there are only few injected parts (the weak point of F.M.). Only the wings and fuselage are in plastic, everything else is resine or white metal. While this won't make the build easier, the detail parts are probably much better than in the HS126 kit (the cabane struts were injected). The Levasseur is a biplane though... Jean-Luc

Hi Jean-Luc Well, wait until you get the model. I bet you will have to carve the parts out of lots of flash. the fuselage sides will have different length and the wings will be warped beyond recognition. I do not believe the metal parts are much better, but you will see. Lots of and but hey, i know you like it .. what about your Bugatti? cheers Steffen

Hi Jean-Luc It's certainly a marvellous subject! Weird and ugly sums it up! I expect it will take a bit of building - but, as you rightly say, we're unlikely to ever see another kit of this aircraft from anyone else. So, full marks to FM on their choice of subject. I really hope for their sake they start to improve the quality of their kits to make them more accessible to a wider market. All the best Rowan

Is this kit actually available for sale now? If so, where? There is nothing about it on the FM site. Thank you for your help. Karl

Hi Karl! It should, but I didn't found it on any modelling webstores I usually use, even the French ones. I think the best is to e-mail Fonderie-Miniature for availabilty: [email protected] Jean-Luc
