The latest Datafile from Albatros Productions covers America's most famous WWI scout designs in the kind of detail I've never seen before, with a comprehensive history by Colin Owers, well chosen vintage and modern day photos, 1:72 and 1:48 scale drawings, plus superb Ronny Bar profiles. It's a timely personal reminder that I've still got Planet Models' 1:48 resin kit waiting for a build – and there's certainly plenty of inspiration here among the colour schemes.

Next to the Curtiss Jenny, the Thomas Morse Scouts remain the best-known American airplanes of WWI. Virtually 'mass-produced' as a fighter/trainer, the compact, tractable Tommy was later destined for post-war Hollywood stardom with a raft of roles in classic movies such as Hell's Angels and The Dawn Patrol. Colin Owers presents a highly-informative study of this classic with over 70 archive photos supported by contemporary sketches and rigging notes from the 1918 S4C handbook. Martin Digmayer provides detailed 1:48/ 1 :72 scale plans complete with structural internals, whilst Ronny Bar contributes six diverse colour
profiles. Among these is a rare 'Aggressor' style Tommy complete with pseudo-German colours and markings for air-to-air combat training. In addition there are 29 colour photos illustrating virtually all surviving extant originals in the USA plus Nick Clarke's sole European-based Tommy. Full appendices include colours and markings data, complete specifications and an updated log of all Tommys today. Another DATAFILE must-have for your WWI reference library!
