I received confirmation from Hobby Link Japan last week that the new 1/48 scale Fine Molds Kawasaki Type 95 Ki-10 fighter which I'd pre-ordered is on the way!

The Ki-10-II (Allied code name "Perry") was the last Japanese biplane fighter. It was widely used by the Army Air Force and saw combat during the Japanese invasion of China and in clashes against Russian forces. Although retired from front-line service by the time the Pacific War broke out, the Ki-10 was brought back for patrol and reconnaissance duties over both the home islands and mainland China during the early days of the war, freeing up more modern types for combat service.
The Fine Molds kit is available in two forms; the standard Ki-10-II and a "Kato's Fighter Squadron" version. The kits are identical in terms of parts - the difference lies in the camouflage and markings. This is an all-new tool by Fine Molds and includes a seated pilot figure, plus a sprue of three 55-gallon drums, ladders, chocks, oil cans, two maintenance crew figures etc.

Both versions are available from HLJ for 2,800 Yen, ($24.18 or £12.85) each plus P&P.

To accompany the kits, Fine Molds have released an etched set of additional details - rigging, machine gun parts, seatbelts etc. This is also available from HLJ for 1,200 Yen ($10.36 or £5.51) plus P&P.

Hi Rowan! This one was not on my "to buy" list until I saw the following in your text: This is an all-new tool by Fine Molds and includes a seated pilot figure, plus a sprue of three 55-gallon drums, ladders, chocks, oil cans, two maintenance crew figures etc. Damned! I think I will have to get it... one day! :-) Jean-Luc

$25.00 is a steal for a Fine Molds kit, especially 1/48. If I was into Japanese Bi-planes, I would stock up on these, and the photo etched set. Even with the shipping it's going to be cheaper than what you'll find them at the LHS, if you ever do, and you'll probably not see the photo etch sets along side them. From experience, I could find as many swordfish kits I wanted, but could never find the photo etched set. Ended up having to order both from overseas, from the same place. Funny how a Hong Kong or Japanese dealer can get both or have both in stock, but a US one can't.

Hi Jean-Luc I thought that bit would grab your attention if you didn't already know the kit included "extras". As you well know, Fine Molds usually include standing figures with their kits, but it looks like they've really gone to town this time! All the best Rowan

Hi Steffen You're in luck! According to the info on HLJ, the kit contains decals for two of the aircraft that Kato flew. All the best Rowan

Hi again Well, the kit arrived on Saturday and I collected it from the sorting office this morning. First impressions are excellent - and just to torment Jean-Luc, it's clear from the instructions that the two versions available each have a different set of figures and accessories! All the best Rowan

Hi Steffen I'm sorry - I was hoping they'd arrived together and you'd have had a chance to take a proper look over the weekend. But I think you'll like it when it arrives! All the best Rowan
