Hi there Scale Models magazine did a nice correction article on the Revell Mossie back when it was released in the early '70s. It did look damned good when they'd done with it. The Hunter is a great kit - I've had one in the stash for years after picking it up for a song. I've never understood why it's not been more popular. The shots of the new Spitfire have me perplexed. I hope it's just a prototype build, but the pitot tube is bizarre, there's something just "odd" about the canopy, and the outer guns look set too low in the wings. I'll leave it to the experts to argue about the crowbar on the cockpit door... All the best Rowan

I am sure that I have read that the wings on this old Mossie are either too high or too low? It looks OK in the pictures though, without something along side to compare it with it is difficult to tell. It would be nice to see a new tool Mossie in 1/32 scale. Yes I would have had one when it first came out but I didn't do 1/32 scale at the time, but I will probably get this re-release The pito tube looks like it has been bent upwards by miss handling (I didn't know that she worked for Revell )I'm not sure about the cockpit canopy, and the crow bar may or may not have been fitted but should be painted black or steel. In other pictures it looks like the ailerons are metal covered and I am not sure if the MkII had them. Without checking I always believed that the only visible difference between the MKI and MkII was the Coffman starter bulge on the starboard engine panel; that would mean that a MkI would just need the bulge removing, so it would make perfect sense to offer the MKII. However if the MkII did have metal covered wings then it would be hoped, but not expected, that the fabric covered ailerons are in the box. It shouldn't be too difficult to alter them though and its something for the aftermarket boys to do The antenna mast looks to be missing the pulley assembly ( a pair of triangular plates with a pulley wheel between them riveted to a "B" shaped fairing near the top of the antenna)which the antenna wire ran over to change direction down to the HF radio. When the radio fit changed to VHF this wire antenna wasn't required and the much shorter wire was fitted up inside the antenna mast. On aircraft with this fit the same antenna mast was used with the pulley assembly no longer fitted, but the "B" shaped fairing was still part of the Antenna mast. I have always thought about scratch building the pulley assembly, I might now have the push to do it Overall though it does look like a Spitfire, even when a certain person announces that it "fatally flawed"! and I will initially be buying 2. One will be finished on a base in Geoffrey Wellum's markings whom I hope may sign it for me (he lives 2 minutes from me) and I will give it for auction at the Mullion harvest festival auction night, held at the "Mounts Bay Inn". Each year a painting of his Spitfire fetches around £600. The second one is for me and the Battle of Britain campaign, and I intend to finish it as a diorama of Mr Wellum approaching the Spitfire for his first ever flight, as described in hi book, "First Light" He was the youngest pilot to fly Spitfires during the Battle

Hi Stephen If I remember correctly, the Scale Models build (it might have been by Ray Rimell - I'll have to dig it out) lowered the canopy line and it made a massive improvement. They also re-contoured the rear of the nacelles to kill the scalloped look. I think I was about 12 years old at the time, and the simple fact that you could go beyond the box with such modifications changed my whole outlook on modelling. They've got a lot to answer for! I keep on hoping that they`re going to re-release Matchbox`s 1/32 Tiger Moth,i`d love one but the prices they`re going for an E-bay are just plain silly.

Danny, Revell have re-released the Matchbox 1/32 Tiger Moth, kit No 04712, I have one If you get one maybe we could have a group build to include all scales? (Airfix have produced a new 1/72 scale kit ) Its nearly April, I am itching to get my hands on the Spit
