Have got a Spitfire Pr MkXIX which I plan to start during the weekend. Just have one question.

The openings for the camera are only simulated as engraved circles in the plastic. How can I make these look real in an easy and simple way?

And a little note about the saying that you can't have to many Spitfires, I now have 7 waiting to be built...

Depenging on how small they are maybe you could paint them black and then two or three coats of gloss varnish to simulate the glass lens?

The kit is in 1/72 scale. Should have mentioned that.

In 1/72 scale then the paint and varnish method is definitely the best. In 1/32 before I have drilled them out, filled them with acetate ( clear sheet) and mounted a 'camera' behind, but not in 1/72 !!!!

Hi Thomas

I'd drill them out and fill the holes with Krystal Kleer, or White Glue (that's what I'm doing on my FR. IX). The original panels were flat (to avoid distortion) and seem slightly recessed in photos.

Hope this helps

Rowan

I guess I could try both methods, have two of the same kits. But the paint and varnish method sounds the easiest.

:-) On a 1/72 aircraft the paint and varnish will work and look pretty good and is probably, just, the easier option. Drilling out the camera ports and filling with Kristel Kleer, or white glue is also very easy and affective. A good plan to try each on a different model :-)

And of course, I promis to post pictures of both kits, so you can see for yourself...
