I was looking around for a newer version of the F86D, but I can't seem to find anything. Is the old Entex kit still one of the better kits on the market?

I would love to see this jet in 1/32 scale from Tamiya or Trumpeter.

I have the 1/48 Entex and Lindberg kit, the Lindberg kit is still sealed so I'm not sure what the contents look like. the Entex kit is fairly nice and will build into a nice looking jet, but i would love to see something new on the F86D.

Kevin,

Revell does an excellent 1/48 Dog Sabre which is still widely available and quite inexpensive (http://store.spruebrothers.com/product_p/rmx855868.htm). Highly recommended!

Kitty Hawk has a 1/32 F86D. I heard it is nice but I don't have one.

I didn't see the Revell offering. That may be worth taking a look at being the price point is 20.00 USD. I wonder how it will stack-up against the Entex.

Thanks for the link.

Thanks for the reply. I'm actually watching a Kitty Hawk kit on the bay, but at the price point, I have been waffling. I'm not certain about the Kitty hawk kits. I heard some terrible things about a few of their offerings. As I stated earlier, I would love to see Tamiya or Trumpeter release this thing in 1/32.

There's no contest, the Revell kit is far better than the old Entex offering. If you want a 1/48 F-86D, get one right away. You won't be sorry!

I have heard that the newer Kitty Hawk kits are very nice compared to the earlier ones i.e. Banshee, voodoo, and cougar. I have the 1/48 Su-17 and it is great!!

Actually the Entex isn't bad at all, so the Revell kit would have to be superb to blow the Entex kit out of the water. I have yet to find a standard Revell kit to be superb but I will take your word on it and check this kit out.

Kevin,

Fair enough. But don't just take my word for it:

http://www.internetmodeler.com/2001/august/first-looks/promodeler_f86d.htm

These are the original iteration of the Revell kit.

And here it is built up:

and

For good measure, here's the Kitty Hawk kit:

Check 'em out and see what you think.

I built mine during the Devils in the Dark campaign we ran a few years ago.

You can also find a description of the build over at ARC.

Note: If you get the first Pro-modeller issue (the one without the brake parachute fairing and which has the tow-tug in the box), be aware that the rudder trim tab is oversized. Revellogram measured up the one at the USAF museum without knowing that it had been modified for tests. Check photos for the correct trim tab shape.

The Revell kit looks good for the price point and I didn't doubt you. Too bad it dosen't allow fuselage separation.

The Kitty Hawk I truly have been waffling on simply because of the price point and poor past reputation. Even so, I have been watching one and may pull the trigger. Thanks for taking the time help me out. It's much appreciated.
