Towards the end of the war when lack of fuel kept the Luftwaffe grounded the Me 262 bases had suspiciously neat grounds and lawns, and suspiciously empty starter cowlings.

This starter system was developed by Norbert Riedel and is called "Riedel starter". It's a kind of a early auxiliary power unit and it was used this way in all of the Junkers Jumo 004 and BMW 003 jet engines the germans used in WW2.
As a 2-stroke engine with 10 HP it needs just a small amount of petrol.
