Hi Guys,
Well,Ive finally bitten the bullet and have started my first build blog.
Thanks to thne inspirational builds of Joel,GazzaS and C4willy.
I can only comment so many times without showing my pitifull atempt.

The kit is Tamiyas excellent F4U-1D out of the box, with the exception of aftermarket decals from Ventura Publications.
My aim is to do aircraft either flown by NZers ie Alan Deere-Spitfire or flown by the RNZAF in the case the Corsair.

Kit was purchased yesterday along with the appropriate Tamiya rattlecans-no fancy airbrush for me-(to be purchased at a much later date)

The aircraft in question will be NZ5255 with Donald Duck personal marking.

So the aircraft in question.
With the first photo I hope

Not the best photo I know. Now I need to work out where the macro button on my Galaxy Tab is.

More to come.

Chris

Great to see you start your first build log Chris! I'm pleased that I amongst others inspired you to try your hand. I look forward to seeing what you do with it. (I will be following along as well ..... hey no pressure! Lol)

Like you I have a Tamiya (Academy as well ) Corsair awaiting my attention. As well as the usual P40's Spitfires Hurricanes Hampden torpedo bombers Mosquitos just about everything flown in the European and Pacific theatres.

Just remember that Kiwi Corsairs had the arrestor hook removed. And were well weathered but very well maintained.

Chris,
WTG on starting your 1st build blog. I'll be following along from start to finish, especially since the F4U was another one of my favorite WW11 aircraft.

Nice start Chris, I'm looking forward to following your progress here.

You will find these build blogs very rewarding, I have always found the feedback and camaraderie from the folks here gives me confidence and encouragement to try out new products and techniques and just enjoy the build that little bit more!

Cheers, D

As always D right on the money! It's about building our fellow modellers up not tearing them down. And offering constructive criticism, advice and tips just sharing things about the hobby we love most.

Chris,
For me, Build blogs not only allow me to share my modeling efforts with everyone interested in that build here on Aeroscale, but it certainly helps to keep me focused on that build through completion. I kick around new ideas, concepts, AM parts, and procedures, and try a few of them out. Most of the time it ends up as a big plus for me.

Hi Chaps,

Apologies for the delay in the next installment of my build.
As it's been the school holidays here I decided to take my kids to visit my parents at their new home.Great weather and about 3 min to the beach.

Well I've completed the pit sub assembly

I'm wondering if I need an ignition harness?
My gut says yep-opinions?

The pit came together extremely well just needs another wah and a Matt coat.Which I'll do as part of the final weathering.

The P&W took 3 attempts to get it to this stage. thank god for oven cleaner.

Again sorry for the bad photos I'll try to borrow a proper camera and will redo them.

Next up wings, wing flaps, landing gear and closing up the fuselage.

Cheers

Hi Chris,
Looks good. Gotta know: what's up with the oven cleaner, stripping paint, or a technique?
As for wiring up the engine, i reckon with that teeny little spinner, some copper wire would really make it pop. Then again, you're the modeller...your happiness with the result and the process is all that really matters.

Cheers,

Gary

Hi Gaza,
Thanks for the comments.
Oven cleaner is my go to paint stripper, for most enamels and oils, although for some reason it doesn't work so well with the Tamiya branded enamels.Go figure.

Cheers

Chris,
I'll 2nd what Gary said, and go for wiring up the big twin radial. It's one of those details that really gives you a max bang for the buck.

Just a quick non picture update.
Fuselage halves together along with the inner wings.
Landing gear assembled both front and tail wheel and I've removed the tail hook RNZAF Corsairs didn't have them.
I just need to add some brake lines.

Also I must have done something right as I've had to do very little sanding of the seams The modeling gods must be in a good mood.

More photos soon.

Cheers

Chris,
I've built 2 Tamiya Corsairs, and have 2 or 3 more planned over then next few years. The kit is the equal to fit and detail of their P-47s, which is the benchmark of 1/48 scale WW11 models.

Looking great Chris! I'll add my agreement to the other two adding the ignition harness just makes the engine just pop.

And I echo your sentiments regarding oven cleaner, I had a comission job to do for a model collector and had to strip some very thickly applied gloss back and gold humbrol enamel. And then finish the build and repaint the kit, oven leaner lifts the enamel right off the parts and clean up is in cold water with a toothbrush. If any remains another quick dose and you're good to go. The best thing is that the plastic is pretty much immune to the effects but paint just dissolves.

Sorry guys this is turning in to a disaster blog.
Once again our Internet is down I'm at the local library checking my emails before heading to pick up the kids from school.
It's been up and down over the last couple of weeks more down than up,and has an annoying habit of crashing part way through trying to do something.
So much for living in a first world country.😠😠😠😬😡
Rant over.

Build steaming along base coats of paint on .

More soon......
Just off to make a sacrifice to the internet gods.(it can't hurt can it)

Sorry to hear about your woes, Bro. Apparently the internet in Slovakia is better than here in Australia.

Good Luck,

Sorry to hear that the various ISPs in Australia are having issues. And Here I'm complaining that Optonline.net is just too expensive, but rarely if ever goes down unless electricity is lost here or at the server. How about I pay $119/month. Sorry for the rant.

Thomas,
Fiver Optic here in the New York area (Suffolk county on Long Island), if FIOS by Verizon, the phone company. They ran lines in many townships here, but the public service commission in each township has said no more lines on the telephone poles, so if you don't have access to FIOS, you're not going to have that access. I've been waiting for FIOS for years, but now that wait is no more.
