Welcome to the Official Schwalbe - Me262 Campaign!

The Messerschmitt Me262 was a groundbreaking aircraft, an elegant and versatile design. There are plenty of kits, in most scales, representing virtually all of the variants including single- and twin-seaters, night fighters, fighter bombers, mistels and heavily armed bomber destroyers. This Campaign gives us the opportunity to investigate and share the history of the Me262, and showcase as many kits as possible.

The Campaign Sign-up page showing all of the rules and regs can be found HERE.

The Campaign Gallery for pics of completed builds has been set up HERE, many thanks Michael .

I will be keeping a running list in this first post as we go, updated as regularly as possible, showing all participants names, kit details and build status. This will provide a convenient quick reference for us all to see what is being built and where everybody is at.

Please feel free to create a dedicated build log thread for your build if you wish, and post updates in this thread whenever you can.

Finally, good luck to everybody with your builds and many thanks for joining in!

Cheers, D

I've decided to do something small scale and go with the Hasegawa 1/72 Me262B. This can be done as either a Me262B-1a or a Me262B-1a/U1 not sure yet which one I'll do I might go for the ordinary A-1a as I think we're going to have a few of the night fighter variant.

Thanks for kicking us off Chris, nice choice there as well. I really hope we get a good mix of scales and variants!

I should be able to get some Sprue shots up this afternoon for my kit.

As promised, Sprue shots of Italeri Kit #2679

Sprues all individually bagged, inside a larger sealed bag. Very secure from loss of parts or damage.

Unbagged sprues

Glass looks very nice, rubber tyres very crisp detail.

2 small PE frets, apologies for poor photo.

Decals, sans Swastikas but I have a few spares to select from. They are not shown on the box art either.

I see there are no reconnaissance planes yet.

I'm in with a Me 262 A-1a/U3

Early kit from MPM which means

one part MPM with recessed panel lines

three parts Heller with raised panel lines

and one part PE.

A bit of folding and drilling required

Markings for a Fotoaufklärer from 1./Nahaufklärungsgruppe 6 in Lechfeld 1944.

Let's start the twostroke...

Howdy Y'all
Just checking in with my Schwalbe-Revell 1/48 Me 262 A-1a.

I might leave the bombs off and build a Whiff-IJN Me 262 Export. I haven't decided yet.
Take care,
Don "Lakota"

I see that there are 4 of us are building the Hobby Boss kit, so I will be able to see how those builds progress and take tips and notes from them.

Here is my build: HOBBY BOSS Me 262 A-1a kit no. 80369

Friends! I'm in but I think I'll stay with one of the prototypes, at least for starters... It will be the V-2/V-3 version, mostly because I don't fancy doing the V-1 in natural metal. I thought I would try to go for both but I know my limitations and I have a dismal track record lately when it comes to campaigns...

This is the kit! Love that box art...

... here are the contents. The two High Planes prototype kits share most of the parts (some might have spotted a redundant prop and spinner already) and differ only in the fuselage sprue!

I've also made some ceremonial filing and fitting, I've still got some other business to attend to before I can spend my full attention on this build!

Mike! When discussing the U4-version with the BK-5 gun in the previous thread the subject of old MPM kits turned up. Fellow Swede Jan just solved the mystery a few posts further to the north in this thread: they were all based on Heller sprues with MPM-made fuselages for all kinds of strange versions. I remember fondling the glass-nose one but never buying it (vac-formed clear nose was a bit cloudy and that's make-it-or-break-it on such a kit!

I'll start a build thread for this one later, when the Spits are finished.

And yet another Hobby Boss entry:

The 'proof of life' pic:

This may be blasphemous, but I plan on reverting the kit back to an 'A-1a' version by removing/omitting the extra two cannon.

I'm gonna start this after I finish a WWII Panther tank in the coincidentally named 'WWII Panther Tanks' Campaign, so I'll probably lag behind the rest for a little while. But there is no fancy PE or AM stuff, so it should catch up quickly.

@Magnus--I had not stumbled upon your dual Spits thread before. Fantastic work! Looking forward to seeing what you do with this little one.

Keith

Magnus,
I picked up (and quickly put right back down) the Heller nightfighter version in a shop in Massachusetts last weekend. Even the kit box buildup was rough! Obvious seams, THICK canopy, clunky thick antenna, bare landing gear.. pass!
Looking at those parts makes me all the more convinced I made the right call.

A Hasegawa kit is the way to go for me then.

Looking forward to the builds here.

This is the kit I will build for the campaign, just have to dig it out of storage.

Cheers Rob.

Rob,
That looks pretty wild! 1/72 or 1/48?

I've got the He 163 version in 1/72 but have not seen this one.

Hi Damian & all of you!

Nice selection of 262-birds in this campaign. Since I failed Grumman-campaign (next stop:Hangar Queen) I give myself another try. First wanted to do one of my Dragon Kits 1:48, but now I think, to get it finish, it will be a Revell A-1a with WGr21 in 1:72 (the right scale, as somebody here mentioned )

Thomas! Thanks for putting in some small-scale company for my prototype!

While on the subject of small-scale, nobody going for the even smaller, absolutely marvellous Eduard-kits in 144?

I like the diversity of kits, I would have done 1/72 but the eyes and big fingers will not work on anything smaller than 1/48.

Mike,
It is a 1/48 kit, I don't do too much 1/72.

Cheers Rob.

Somehow I've amassed 4 Me-262s over the past few months, as well as a 1/48 Nakajima Kikka to serve as a companion piece to a Schwalbe. Here's the Schwalbe Stash:

Thinking about starting with the Tamiya 1/48 A-1a, but not sure what kind of WIF it's going to be. Currently debating Regia Aeronautica, Royal Netherlands Air Force and Imperial German Luftwaffe markings.

That's an astute observation - I've been considering passing off the Hasegawa 1/48 B1/Ua Nachtjager since I'm not sure I'll get to it/have room for it. It's got photo-etched parts and is all sealed in plastic bags.

Martyn, we both have that modelers disease of too many kits and not enough time but hey! it makes things interesting.

Cant wait to see which kit you end up building.

Just as an aside to that. My wife finally put her foot down the other day,,,,after she declared that there wasn't any room left to store my kits...even the space under our bed is full up!
