As Jeff has decided not to progress with his ‘Copters 'N Choppers Campaign’ I am proposing a similar campaign; but I am putting a crossover element into it. The crossover element would be that Army helicopters can be built on the Armorama site and/or the Aeroscale site, Air Force and civilian helicopters must be built on the Aeroscale site as that is very much the right place for them. The rules that I propose are;
1. Any helicopter model by any manufacturer
2. Scale would be 1/72nd scale to 1/24th scale
3. Helicopters from any period are acceptable including what if machines
4. The campaign could also be used to build Aircraft such as the Osprey.
5. I propose a start date of 1st January 2014 to 1st of July 2014
6. You must post your progress in the campaign thread; no just posting a finished picture.
7. In order to get a campaign ribbon you must upload an image of your finished build to the campaign gallery.

While this is a crossover campaign I would advise that Armorama members make a point of also posting their progress in the Aeroscale campaign thread, this I feel is a good idea as the Aeroscale members are more attuned to the skills and knowledge of building these types of model and you could acquire more skills.

hai CMOT,

I have a few choppers in my stash and if this is a campaign running more or less until 6/2014 as a minimum then I am in, I m not sure yet whether it will be an army chopper or not;

I am mystified why there should be two separate campaigns, and also why anyone would be reluctant to join a campaign simply because of where the thread is filed. the 'Us vs Them' part of this is bugging me. It's tempest in the tea-pot, but it really makes no sense...

Will there be a decision about allowing 1/144?
I have four of these UH-1 kits

and this SAR squadron to model

Im building that Caribou for another campaign.

The campaign that Jeff put forward was jumped on because of how he had it set up. There was however a lot of interest when Jeff decided to give up on the idea and so I proposed a similar campaign that looked to satisfy both sides of the fence. I myself will be building a cobra unless I can find a 1/35th scale Iroquois and I will be blogging my progress on both sites regardless, as I feel the Aeroscale members will be able to aid my progress and result in my model being better than it otherwise might have been. The problem with putting the campaign on the KitMaker site is that other than the members taking part few others will see the progress I suspect.

Jonathan let me see if the campaign attracts enough interest and I will consider 144th scale but I would prefer 1/72 and larger.

On my behalf I would love to contribute with a helicopter model but couldn't quiet understand the "crossover" part.

I came over here not to argue but to explain a few things. I didn't "give up" the Campaign idea I simply felt it was becoming more work than fun with all the resistance.

If this forum decided to do a truck or a tank Campaign and I was interested, I most certainly wouldn't lobby to have it on another forum.

I had the numbers to submit but no one was willing to grace themselves or even humble themselves to come on over and have some fun. I mean... it was no leg work at all.

But have fun with my idea as helicopters are a new love of mine and I just thought we could all come together on a Campaign since some of the armor guys are building aircraft too.

Have a great day!

yes, but - no, but --

There was one single objection, and it was a clerical one -

--- it's a filing system, like the alphabet.

there isnt any "crossing over". there isnt any "this forum", you arent in a foreign country when you post "here". there is only one web site here.

If I want to join a truck or armor campaign, I know where to find them. I watch them daily with great admiration, and fully expect to build trucks and tanks in the future.

Im still wondering if this campaign will be open to me ,
because my proposal is in 1/144 scale.

Jeff,

Having read the threads on your idea again, NOBODY has resisted having a helicopter campaign. However, several people questioned that such campaign would be launched on Armorama which is dedicated to something else.

you seem determined to find an enemy in this whole story and make this into a "aeroscale versus armorama" discussion. It is NOT like that.

Many aroscale regulars are frequenting also armorama and several other parts of kitmaker. Mine, and your, user account works on the whole kitmaker network.

There was no resistance against a helicopter campaign or against you leading it, there is resistance against having such campaign on armorama because this goes against the efforts of staff_Jim and many staff members to split up the whole site in different parts dedicated to one topic or another.

This was NOT done to separate people but to ensure that the voice of those modellers specialising in railroads, or planes, or ... would also find a home on the network and not be washed away under the huge success of armorama AFV modelling.

Starting a campaign on helicopters on armorama undermines this effort, and content which is badly needed on aeroscale will be on armorama, difficult to find to new visitors.

Using your example, if someone on aeroscale would propose a tank campaign, I would argue that it belonged on armorama.

Hence, and I agree with JClapp on this, there is no reason for cross over, or any other well-meant attempt to overcome this discussion, first site of choice for a helo campaign is Aeroscale and anyone with a kitmaker account may participate. There are no borders and no fences!

When I run a campaign with subject matter which appeals to more than one of Kitmaker's sites (for example, the recent Airfix Campaign), I host the campaign thread on the Modeling in General forum, which is visible to all Kitmaker members, regardless of their 'home' site. This allows for equal exposure to all Kitmaker members without favouritism, and avoids the appearance of a 'turf war'.

I think that this campaign would be an excellent candidate for such a hosting strategy. Aeroscale, Armorama, Model Shipwrights and any other members interested in doing a helicopter could feel free to join in without the need to navigate around an unfamiliar site.

Posting of your interest in this thread will suffice at the moment. Once we have our 10 interested parties we'll be able to submit the proposal to the Campaign Admins for their decision. Once it gets approved they'll create the official sign-up page.
