Hi all

This model has had its moments, but I've managed to finish it and take some pics without any fresh disasters! :-)

It's my first try at building a WW1 aircraft since I was a kid, so it's presented plenty of fresh modelling challenges.

Obviously, it's a bit late to change much now, but I'd appreciate any comments and tips for my next bi-plane.

All the best

:-) Rowan this looks fantastic, particularly knowing all the trials and tribulations you went through to produce this. The only thing I can see that might be improved is one of the wires, from the nose, is a little slack :-) The wooden propeller and the tyre rubber are particularly well done. So was the plywood affect on the fuselage (seen on other postings), the stipled green camo is also well done :-) Basically, ypu are to be congratulated

Congratulations!! Looks as good as the profiles in the Osprey Albatros Aces volume. Love the wood prop, mottle and subtle weathering!! As the Germans would say: Du, Prachtkerl!

Merlin

I love that prop. Looks awesome and the canvas paint job is tops. Can't wait to see your next one.
Thanks again for your help with my pictures.

Cheers

Cheers everyone :-)

Thanks for the kind words! :-)

Mal:-) - The rigging is a pain to to keep taught! #:-) It was only after taking the pics, I noticed that one of the aileron cables had gone slack as well... :-) Basically, I think everytime I pick the thing up, eveything shifts a little :-)

Cheers ZoomieE7 - The Albatros Aces book was a blessing in trying to confirm the paint scheme. It doesn't show in these pics, but I used a bit of "logical guess-work" and tried to give the effect that the upper-wing crosses had been re-painted as well as those on the fuselage - without photo refs., who knows... :-)

HastyP - Cheers and I'm glad I could help :-)

All the best

Nice weathering effects :-) The rigging looks tedious! Things like that look great on display

Hi again

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. :-)

After struggling for ages to finish any kits, I can hardly believe it; since joining Armorama, I've started two and finished them both! :-) This place really is incredible!! :-)

I hope all of you building for the Age of Aces campaign have had as much fun as me (despite a few cock-ups!!). Looking forward to seeing your models... I bet they're going to be a bit special! :-)

All the best

Merlin Sir,

congratulations. I can usually approach models with technical or rational attitude but your Albatros is just plain beautiful piece of work. The palette you have used is masterfully balanced, details are crisp, the slight sheen finish...almost makes me weep.

Another plane like this approaches, I´m back to the wingy things!

Cheers,
Toni

PS Could you get some pics from the top and below?

the slight sheen finish...almost makes me weep.

Thank you very much Toni! :-)

There's no secret to the sheen - I used MicroFlat... which never seems to dry really "flat"... more of a semi-matt sheen. :-) I've had a bottle for years and, despite having tried many other varnishes, I've always found it the simplest and most reliable "final-coat" on the shelf! :-)

Thanks again... I really appreciate it! :-)

All the best
