by: Tim Hatton [ LITESPEED ]

Platz have released a photo etched detailing set for the delightful looking Mitsubishi T-2 that served as a two seat fast trainer with the Japanese Air Self Defence Force.

Contents.

The single fret includes pre coloured parts for the cockpit. The instrument panel for each cockpit is made up from two parts. There is a part for the instrument dials, which is glued to the instrument panel. There are two sets of side console and like the instrument panel are superbly detailed and worth the price of the set alone. There are additional parts for the cockpits such as rudder pedals, various levers, throttles, HUD mounts and a hood for the radar scope in the front cockpit. These items are not painted.
The two Weber ES-7J zero-zero ejection seats have pre coloured harnesses. The canopy cutters for the top and sides of the seats are also included, but not painted.
Canopies have some superb additions particularly if you are displaying the canopies open. There are seals for both canopies, mirrors and handles. These are not coloured.
On the outside of the aircraft there are replacement parts for for the various blade antennae. There are quite a few additional or replacement parts to enhance the undercarriage. For the front undercarriage some surgery is required, removing the torsion link and actuating rod for the forward undercarriage door. This door is also replaced with a photo etched part. Parts for the main undercarriage comprises of the addition of some links and a grill to each door.
Information is in Japanese, but there are symbols for cutting, gluing, etc. The instructions are in the form of diagrams and very easy to follow, very similar in style to Eduards instructions. As I don't understand Japanese I am not sure whether there is a recommended kit for this set, although I would imagine this set is intended for the Hasegawa Mitsubishi T-2.
Parts and instruction come in a small resealable transparent package. The etched parts are contained in a small plastic bag. There is a small piece of black card behind the photo etched fret to give some protection. The three sided A4 instruction sheets, are folded four times to give a good deal of stiffness and protection. This should survive most postal journeys.
This photo etched set has been produced by Eduard.

Conclusions.

This is an excellent detail set for the1/72 Mitsubishi T-2 and will bring your model to life. Some of the parts are incredibly small, but the parts count is not to daunting. Some straight forward surgery is required to the kit parts as well as some folding of the photo etched parts.
