WW2 Control Tower Interior & Detail Set

by: Jean-Luc Formery [ TEDMAMERE ]

Introduction

This is a detail set destined to enhance Flightpath's WW2 Control Tower kit (see review here ).

The content

The set comes in a zip bag (picture 1) and it's content is the following (picture 2):
- one photo etched brass sheet
- four plastic bags with various detail parts (metal parts, acetate sheet, rigging chord, brass tube etc...)
- two color printed sheets with various flags and signs and symbols
- an instruction "booklet" made of 5 A4 pages

The set includes interior furniture and equipment for the main control room (desks, chairs, radios, telephones etc... see picture 3 and 4). There are also exterior items auch as a weather vane, wind speed indicator, sirens and a reporting sign for the roof, a meteorological equipment box, printed signs for modelling the signals square and a cast flag mast (picture 5) with printed Station Commander's Pennant and both RAF Standard & US flags (picture 6). Also included is a cycle stand matched to the cycles in Flightpath's Airfield Cycle Set (see here ).

All the parts are nicely done but will require some care to assemble as they are made of various materials and also because most of them are really small. Making a chair out of PE parts won't be a "mince affaire" but at the end will surely look very convincing.

Instructions and building

Flightpath's WW2 Control Tower Interior & Detail Set assembly guide is composed of both text and drawings (picture 7). The text will give you precise building explanations while the plans will give you a visual reference. It is good the instructions are only printed on one side of the A4 sheets as this gives you the possibilty to read the text and see the drawings at the same time.

No color guide is provided but some pictures will guide you for the painting of the interior as well as for the furniture and equipment of the control tower.

Conclusion

Flightpath's 1/48 scale WW2 Control Tower is a very original model kit and will benefit immensely from this Interior & Detail set. Once assembled, it will represent an almost perfect replica of the real building and a fantastic subject for a diorama. Thanks to the additional parts, you can even build it with one wall removed to show the interior!
