1350
Cutty Sark

Nikos Kosmadakis shares with us some photos of his latest creation, a 1/350 scale rendition of Academy Model's Cutty Sark.

Nikos tells us this was a bit of a kit-bash of a build as he took the hull, main structures and vertical masts from the box opting to scratch build everything else needed for this build as well as consulting the parts bin for old boat parts and photo etch.

For the decking, Nikos printed the appropriate scaled pattern on paper and glued it directly to the model; calling this "a poor man's wooden deck". He created the figurehead , the witch Nannie Dee from Robert Burns's 1791 poem Tam o' Shanter, from epoxy putty.

The the use of foil sewn wth copper wire, Nikos created the sails for this iconic sailing vessel as well as using nearly 5 meters of 0.01mm copper wire to rig the ship and make the ship's ratlines.

The sea base to this display was made from foam board and cotton and finishing in Nikos's personal style glossed finish. He was pleased with the overall finish of this 1/350 scale sailing ship stating, "I think with a lot of patience something good came out of a very simple kit."

Model Shipwrights would like to thank Nikos Kosmadakis for providing photos of his 1/350 scale Cutty Sark
