HMS Hood 1942...

I have attached my latest 700 scale HMS HOOD 1942 build details.

This exercise is based on 2 x Tamiys kits, HMS Hood, and HMS KG5. With help and inspiration from R A Burt's British Battleships 1919-1939 I have been able to speculate as to what the refitted ship may have looked like. In this build I have rebuilt the funnels to accord with those used for Renown and so it's not all straight forward but some artistic license may be used. The camo layout by the way is also form the Burt book.

Umm, "This time the HMS Hood as she looked in 1942." Huh? May 24, 1941 the Hood and a German ship called the Bismarck got into a bit of a tussle. In 1942 the HMS Hood lay at the bottom of the Denmark Strait. She looked nothing like the model portrayed. By then she was three fairly big pieces of wreckage, and many, many smaller bits. The model is a conjecture - what the Hood might have looked like had the R.N. had the time and resources. Kudos to Mr. Fulgoney, nice work, and I think the Hood would have been a much more handsome ship if the refit had been carried out.

That is "would have" looked in 1942. Sort of a What-If Build.

Sort of HMS Repulse but with bigger guns ? The backdrop is fantastic.

Same size guns, just more of them, and a more potent dual purpose secondary battery.

Alec, Take a good look at the back ground. That is the sky. Peter told me once that he takes his builds to the ocean and take pictures of the against the natural sky. I really like the look.

[/quote] Cheers, guys, always very nice to hear from you, and if you're taking photos with the sea in the background you have to choose the right day as it can be very windy down there. What is the big bonus is the real sea and sky background and proper day lighting. Also the sky and clouds reflect onto the model sea to elevate the realism even more. Peter F
