1⁄1Tank Killers Campaign
Historical BackgroundFor every weapon developed, nations rush to find a counter to that weapon, especially so if the weapon alters the nature of warfare. In the Great War (later known as World War I), a combination of weapons led to a stagnant deadly battlefield. Both sides sat in trenches protected by barbed wire, machine guns, and artillery firing explosive fragmentation shells. It was deadly in the extreme to cross the "No Man's Land" in between the sides. To counter this, a weapon (code named "tank") was developed. With armor thick enough to keep out bullets and shell fragments, tracks to carry it over the torn-up ground of "No Man's Land" and through the barbed wire, and cannon and machine guns to carry the fight to the enemy trenches, you can bet a counter was being developed.
The CampaignThe scope for this Campaign extended to all aspects of anti-tank weaponry. This included both self-propelled weapons like tank destroyers and infantry-based weapons such anti-tank rifles and guns from World War Two to the present. Dioramas were permitted as long as they showed anti-tank crews at work. There were no restrictions on scale or manufacturer. The campaign ran from November 13, 2009 to June 6, 2010. The campaign was originally the child of Longlance but in March he felt other commitments would not allow him to effectively lead the campaign and smoothly turned the reins over to barkingdigger. The Armorama Campaigns Administrator would like to thank Longlance for his thoughtfulness and to barkingdigger for his willingness to jump in and oversee the campaign to its end.
