IJN Yugumo

Teaching an old kit a new trick...
This is the IJN Yugumo in 1:700 scale. The kit is nearly 40 years old and it is certainly showing its age. The kit was a lot of work but it turned out pretty good in the end. The PE used was just bits and pieces from the parts box.

The thing that really helped it was using the Tamiya Light Vessel Ordinance set for the larger armament and FineMolds IJN Twin and Single barrel AA for the smaller guns. A lot of styrene, wire and stretched sprue also went into the model.

The paint is Tamiya Kure Gray and Joann’s Craft Store Spice Brown for the linoleum. The model was weathered with powdered chalks.

About Anthony Kochevar (ajkochev)
FROM: UTAH, UNITED STATES

I've modeled ships as a teen and started the hobby again in 2005. For some reason I got into the history of the Japanese Navy at this time and started building ships of this navy. I also do N Scale model railroading, reef aquariums and a few video games.

Hi Anthony! Yes, I like it a lot! It is one those projects that spark all the potential the modeler has, and you show it greatly on this built! Apart from the start base model (a real "dog") you managed to spice it up to a good level, and then you added those small details that make this scale so interesting and so many times overlooked (especially on model shows). Details like: life rings, torpedo on chocks, crates and boxes, cables and ropes protections... and so on! The torpedo tube mounts also have a A+ btw Congratulations Cheers, Rui

The details look fantastic! Plenty of ideas to spruce up the old waterline series...thanks for sharing!
