Sunday 10th September saw the Sutton Coldfield Model Makers Society stage it's 30th anniversary show at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall. This show has become increasingly popular over the last few years, so much so in fact, that the organizer's say there was a waiting list of clubs wishing to attend the show this year. The show is held over 3 large halls in Sutton Coldfield Town Hall, and the club has already booked a further hall to be used for next year's show! The day turned out out to be warm and sunny, the parking at the venue was cheap and readily available, loads of traders as well as clubs attending........what more could you wish for? Entry into the event was a very reasonable £3, there was a refreshement area next to the club stands, and attendance was up!
A separate room was set aside for the contest area, most classes being well subscribed to, although there were a few for which there were no entries at all. The standard of the competition entries ranged from average to very good, with a bust of a Celt Warrior from Kevin Peart taking 'Best of show'. The full list of winners is as follows: George Canning Trophy: Ben Woolley - Hawker Hurricane Junior Aircraft: Adam Cooper-Smith - Corsair Junior Military Vehicles: Adam Cooper-Smith Senior Aircraft: Roger Harthill Aircraft 1/71 to 1/48: Mike Shaw - DH2 Aircraft 1/47 & Larger: Dave Foxhall - Phantom Military Vehicles 1/72 & Smaller: Neil Craton Military Vehicles 1/72 & larger: Stephen Welch Civilian Vehicles: Rob Steele Figures 54mm & Under: John Scott Figures 54mm & Over: John Scott Mounted Figures: Mike Shaw Dioramas: Phil Jennings Marine: Roy Allen Science Fiction: David Hardman Fantasy: John Scott Busts: Kevin Peart Flats: Roger Harthill The Open Competition: David Hardman There are more than 150 pictures more of the show and contest entries in the Events Gallery, just follow the link!
