I`ve decided to start the Caudron. The kit contains extra sprues with the floats and beeching trolleys along with trestles. They are great cause IMHO the floatplane looks a little bit peculiar without them on the ground.

Hello!
I`ve started painting the woodgrain bits of the nacelle. I`ve used XF55 as a base and artistic oils varnished with Clear Orange. I think I`ll try to work some more on these parts to get more refined result.

I`ve also glued the Le Rhône 9C engines. I`ve just added the push-rods and the wires. After seeing the pics I think they require some touch ups.
I`ve tested the Chrome Silver for the first time

Some cockpit details:
The seatbelts are scratch built.
I`ve used Green Stuff to make the pilot`s seat more comfy
I`ve also replaced the compass. The one OOB is fine but I just like to make some details on my own.
I`ve decided to install the wireless - whether Hydroavions had them or not is unclear but I think it`s a great detail. Also, my logic makes me believe that they had them installed.

Thanks for your kind words!!!

Another update just to show you that I`m not that lazy...

The nacelle and the floats are prepared for the paint job.

I`ve glued the wings and fixed the metal plates.

I`ve also added the PE bits to the engine nacelles and covered them with a primer.

Other bigger parts are also prepared for painting.

Many thanks for your kind words!
Some painting and masking done - as the base for the CDL I`ve used the good old XF-57. I`ve sprayed Red Brown at the area of the wings which was reinforced with plank wood and the ribs. The ribs were masked after the whole wing was covered with XF 57 again in order to simulate some depth. The effect I wanted to achieve is presented in the picture below:

Masking:

Next, I`ve sprayed the lightened up base paint at the ribs and between them in order to make the shading effect more vivid. Now it`s time for varnish and some artistic oils.

I`ve also added the stitching using the 0,06 fishing line.

I keep on pushing with the build.

Masking prior to spraying the upper wing surfaces:

Upper surfaces done, only varnish and oil left to be applied.

Horizontal stabiliser and elevators (something got sticked to one of them and has been already removed )

Thanks!
I`ve managed to glue the nacelles:

I`ve decided to instal the machine gun because there`s definitely something in the only picture of the Hydravion I`ve found online...

I`ve weathered the engine nacelles to imitate some castor oil staining. I`ve added scratch-built oil pulsators.

I`ve prepared the wing for the nacelles assembly. Once again I`m more than happy that CSM has prepared these great fittings.

Nothing spectacular but I keep on working. Around sixty buckles and lines prepared to be fixed to the upper wing anchor points... twice as much still left to be done.

Many thanks for your kind words!!!

I`ve got the same feelings towards the rigging part of the job

My Caudron finally looks like a plane The engineering of the kit is very good - even with the floats and a rather overall complicated construction, it`s still easy to keep things well aligned and correct in shape.

I`m on the final stretch with this one... Some 20 wires left, along with details, gun, trestles and the beaching trolleys. One of my quickest builds, thanks to the kit`s extraordinary quality.

Nothing spectacular to show you. Some minor details are in place.
I think I`ll try to make some beach and water base - seems like a challenge though...

Simply outstanding!

Both your modeling and photography skills go above and beyond the everyday.

I have been studying your photos and am really curious about how you did the turnbuckles and rigging. These things tend to look too big in 1/48, but they are so nice here. Are these fittings that come with the kit? What size tubing did you use for the sleeves?

Wow! VERY, VERY impressive.

For a larger(er) scale model of a large(ish) subject, it's incredibly small
