Well, that was pretty stupid. I accidentally deleted the previous thread on this campaign. Sorry about that.
So, welcome to the NEW Now Enlisting, Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Campaign thread. The campaign will run from 1 January through 1 July, 2018. If you want to see the rules and sign up, go

I'm planning one of the following for my build:
Hasegawa A-4E
Academy F-4C
Eduard MiG-21PF
All in 1/48, all great kits. Still plenty of time till January to make up (or change) my mind!

Though my personal 50th Anniversary for Vietnam would be based on 1973, I'm really anxious to start in on this Campaign. Works well to have plenty of time for research and planning. I'm hoping to expand a little and do a 'Wingy Thing' as well as an Armor build.
Thinking along the lines of a 1/72 F4E or F105G 'Wild Weasel' as I have friends that flew those. Then I'll do either a M48A3 Patton or a M551 Sheridan.
Like with the Six Day War 50th Campaign, another great idea Michael.

I have a question: the first indochina war is also covered by this campaign?
if yes, i think i'll build a ki43-III operated by the french between 45-46 and a spitfire mk.IXe of the same era.
And for the US era an A-4E and a Zorro T-28D

I'm perfectly willing to go back to right after the end of WWII, that will add even more variety. 1945-75 it is!

Somehow I’ve ended up with (2) Monogram A-1H and an ESCI A-1H both 1/48 for the upcoming Vietnam campaign. I have a question of the group here, are these two kits connected? Then I came up with a brain freeze, I want to do a side by side build log. One Air Force and one US Navy, I guess I need to do a little research into how others have presented their comparison build logs.
If it aint broke dont fix it.

I started this one a few months back Peter. Not a bad kit. I'd recommend swapping the Sidewinders as I believe they represent later post Vietnam versions, but early types are easy to find in Hasegawa weapons sets.
Other than that it builds fairly quickly and easily.
Be interested to see what you do with it.

A lot of manufacturers from the far east are doing this lately. Don't know why or how they're managing it.

First of all I couldn't find any...
second... I have no experience in any vacu stuff
But there are some good tutorials on YT, so there's a chance I can fix the issue without hurting the wallet

Yeah, I've seen some tutorials of people using regular sand papers, followed by high grid polishing meshes and polishing compounds and it gives good results, so there's a hope

Looks like engineering issue to me... Some problems with releasing clear parts moulds forces them to "cut" canopies in half maybe?

My experience with fixing (polishing) a canopy is to buy another kit or replacement. I tried polishing once that's it.

I think the issue with the seam is if the canopy has a bubble shape. A one piece mold can't handle that, so they need to use a two piece one and that leaves a seam.
I find that progressively finer grain sandpaper and some polishing compound usually works fine to get rid of these pretty quickly. Just keep a finger up inside the canopy so you don't stress it while you're working. You CAN do it!

I succeeded at it once, the second time I sanded through the edge of the canopy.
Found my Hasegawa A-6, and it molded the canopy in two halves....
OTOH, I think 1/3 of my stash is Nam era. Several Skyraiders including a a couple A1-Es, Skyhawks, A-3, A6, EA-6, A7, F-4, Thud, F-8, Voodoos, OV-1, RA-5C, OV-10, O-2C, maybe even a Bird Dog
