Time for a BUMP:

Out of the nine vacuform kits that are in my stash, I’ve finally picked one for the campaign.

Nice looking Yak kit, cockpit details and all. I had to read about it, the French tricolor spinner is an interesting detail.

I have these twoLockheed L-188 Electra kits- quite different!
I think I will do a Bob R. style comparison build of both kits.
A possibly rare and old Jewel-Like-Models, which I got at a flea market -

I don't like the look of those props. Making vacuform wheels will be a new experience.

and the currently available Welsh models kit, which I bought new from the maker.

metal props frees up the very nice Welsh vacuform props to retrofit the other kit.

also, two vintage decals, which will require careful rehabilitation and possibly modification to work on the respective kits.

Both of these liveries fill me with nostalgia.

Nice looking L-188's Jonathan. I have never seen a kit of any kind at a flea market might have been too late each time I went.

I will watch your progress of rehabilitation on the decals, mine are going in the trash then will purchase some AM.

It will be nice to see the comparison between the two L-188 kits.

Hi all

There's some exciting stuff lining up as subjects for this build. I'm sticking with my Weihe, despite finding a fair few other temptations as I delved through boxes of old kits. I'd forgotten just how many vacuforms I'd bought back in the classic days of "cottage industry" alternative modelling.

All the best

PLEASE DO ROWAN!

I will have these (3) kits on the desk as we start the GB just in case I have the ability build another. These (3) will need to have the landing gear scratched or if I cheat rob a kit for them.

Hi again

Sorry - I boxed everything up again as went through the packing cases looking for the MPM kits. I can't face wading through that lot again for a while!

All the best

The C-124 would be a neat looking build Jonathan, Rowan I could come over and offer my assistance to inventory your collection if you need the help.

Only 8 brave ones enlisted so far, this art really seems to be lost.

Still, I am looking forward to it, one more month and then I can hone my skills on the mother of all vac forms.

I'll enlist with my P2Y if I can figure out how to upload and post photos. Still a mystery to me at this point. I'm trying to do it without paying for a photo hosting site. Call me cheap, but I can't see paying anyone for holding on to my photos-- I'm considering Flickr at this point, since I already have an account that came with my device. Jonathan-- I have access to an actual C124 if you need photos.

the easiest thing is still the kitmaker gallery. I used something else for some time but paid the price of seeing my stuff disappear with changing user conditions of that site.

The kitmaker site owner promised to make the kitmaker gallery better accessible. Maybe drop him a PM?

I use Kitmaker's gallery too, and dont tell anyone but I am linking my pictures here into posts on other forums!
I cough up $3.50 a month to be subscriber here, that gets me half a gig of galley space and eliminates the blinking ads, which i think is a good deal.

If you have a Flickr account you should take advantage of it.

The lesson of Photobucket and many, many other sites before it - (anyone here remember AltaVista, or Homestead?) is that everything on the internet is temporary.

It is still a few weeks to our official start date, so I am hopeful the other enthusiasts at the beginning of this thread will turn out yet.

In my area, the flea market is visible from space!

Even without subscribing, if you bother to reduce the size of your pictures to what is required for on-screen viewing, then the gallery is more than big enough.

Admittedly, the interface to that gallery is totally outdated and it takes far too much effort to upload a picture and link it to a forum post. Besides, size reduction for on-screen viewing is also something that could be automated by the kitmaker site.

Hi again

I can't believe it's less than a month until kick-off! Seeing the contents shots here has inspired me to do an in-box review of the Fw 58 - it'll be rather fun sat among all the new releases! (You never know, it might actually wake a manufacturer up to the fact that an 1:48 short-run injection-moulded Weihe would be rather tasty...)

All the best

You never know! Some builders might decide to join in after some progress posts and the lost art of vac, resin, multimedia may gain some more enthusiasts.

OW yes, I can think of many models that would in 1/48 scale probably be prohibitely expensive when injection moulded ... but very much possible and wanted with vac form fuselage and wings, acciompanied by highly detailed injection, PE, resin, metal parts for all sorts of details.

Just dream: a 1/48 scale Victor, Valliant, Vulcan, KC-135, Bear, Concorde, TU-160 ...
