Back in 1955 the biggest helicopter was the PIASEKI YH-16 TRANSPORTER. REVELL kitted one in 1/96 as part of their Air Power Series. Let''s look it over.

Revell did not specifically kit "1/100" scale when this model came out, although they did eventually did market the scale. AHM had an impressive line of 1/100 (plus or minus) aircraft from 1927 to modern jets.

Older 1/100 run the spectrum from junk-toys to delightful little kits. Tamiya also had a substantial line of 1/100 modern jets and helicopters, the 1/100 Scale Mini-Jet Series of the early 1970's. Those are delightful little kits with recessed panel lines.

Most 1/100 scale aircraft are great lil' gems. I have many and intend to present these little known and under-appreciated kits as I build them. Others are:

Model railroaders and war gamers of OO [1/76] through TT [1/120] (including E and QO SCALE [1/96], OOC SCALE [1/100], 3mm SCALE and TM SCALE {a version of TT}[1/101.6]) desiring aircraft had, and still suffer, a relatively small field to choose from. Accurate Miniatures, AHM, Doyusha, Faller, Revell, Roskopf, Takara, Tamiya and others fill the void with a good selection of common and popular aircraft c.1927 - present.

Nice one! I love these trips down memory lane - a lot of them cover the kits I saw advertised on the backs of US-import comics back in the '60s, but which were never on the shelves of my LHS. In many cases your reviews are my first chance to see "for real" what I missed out on all those years ago...

Excellent. I also enjoy the older goodies. They are fun the build and add any detail you would like. Plus it doesn't take a bank loan to get one. I think I have two or three of these all for under 10 buck each. Can't beat it. Many of these old kits were never seen where I grew up. My models in those days came from Kresties the forerunner of K Mark.

I remember Kresties! I remember buying the Revell P-40E, Stuka, ME 109...

Considering this kit when new cost less than 1$US when it first hit the shelves it's a gem.

Classic, thanks for sharing Fred. I love the surface details, the minor amount of flash to deal with 😳 and the political correctness in the instructions "Revell H-O . . . . A man's train . . . "

And that silver plastic, so many builds from my early years that ended up being more cement than styrene just to keep them together.
