I'm working on an Iraqi army aviation Mi-35M Hind gunship. The MI-35M is a modernized version of the Hind helicopter gunship. The MI-35M Hind has seen combat over Iraq in the current war that's going on in the middle east right now.

i'm building the Zvezda Mi-35M with the use of Ace's photo etched parts. I'm using photo etched parts for the cockpit, the cargo bay and the exterior.

Prior to construction, I compared Zvezda's MI-35M to the HobbyBoss MI-24V.

These are the cargo bay photo etched parts.

51215 030

51215 035

51215 037

51215 048

I accidentally cut one of the poles too much when i was trying to fit the seats in the cargo bay, so i replaced it with a brass rod. I realized that its meant to be tucked in while putting the seats in.

51215 057

51215 058

51215 061

This is a problem that came to me with the conversions attached to the seats.

51215 062

So I had them cut off the parts that are causing the problem.

51215 064

That now fits better.

51215 066

51215 069

Now comes the use of the cockpit photo etched parts

51215 113

51215 114

Now come the use of Ace's film for the instruments.

51215 120

51215 121

51215 122

51215 125

Hope you liked my build so far.

I like your heli very much. Will it be a "Hind" of the current fight against ISIS, or one from the pre-Operation Iraqi Freedom Baath-era air force?
I wish the Iraqi air force would bring back the green triangle. How can they throw away eighty years of miltary aviation tradition? Besides, I think the new roundel is hideous.

This is going to be from the fight against ISIS.

I also do like the the green Iraqi air force triangle they used to have.

Here is a comparison of the Hobbyboss Hind and the Zvezda Hind.
I'm also working on the Hobbyboss hind to turn it into an MI-35M.

While i was working on the Mi-35 i had a look at the instructions and realized i missed a piece of the cockpit.

23122015 010

I forgot to put in "E6".

23122015 011

I noticed a gap in the cockpit prior to assembly but i just filled it with a filler. On the bright side, at least it's barely noticeable.

I painted the seats and the ceiling brown according to what the instructions instruct.

23122015 015

23122015 017

however, when i had a look a some reference pictures, i realized the colour was wrong and that it should be like a khaki light grey.

23122015043 001

002

Here i started to work on the passenger windows with the use of the Ace photo etched parts.

23122015 033

23122015 034

I had issues trying to fit this in so i had to improvise.

23122015 036

I sanded the edges a little bit so that the window could fit.

23122015 037

23122015 039

And then i realized i made another mistake.

23122015 040

I put the bottom bar upside down. Now i have to remove the bar and and put even more painstaking work into it.

23122015 042

some of the photo etched parts got damaged but they were also too bit to fit on the doors so i replaced them with smaller parts.

Your Hind build is looking good. The upgrades are improving the kit greatly. All that P.E. work is painstaking, but worth the end result. Good luck with the rest of the build.

It's been a while since I've worked on this, so recently I've been doing quite a bit of progress.

In my recent progress I’ve put more detail on the exterior, though some of it was a pain since some parts got damaged, lost and not to mention difficulties in parts struggling to fit. But it’s getting there and I’m satisfied that my helicopter is coming to life.
So here’s what I was up to.

the little plastic strip with a hole should have been photo etched parts, but they got destroyed when i tried to remove them.

So, I've recently primed the helicopter and started to paint it. However, i was not pleased by the primer because it wasn't suitable for this job. also i didn't like the finish since it was quite thick and coveres some fine details. Then i decided to remove the paint using nail polish remover.

As you can see, one thing led to another.

"WHAT" "A" "SET" "BACK"

I am furious at how it turned out so far! i even felt close to smashing my hind into the ground! removing the paint was a challenge, especially with tiny parts that had to be removed.

i do this hobby to have fun building models, but it's recent projects taking ages with such complication and failure that is putting me off this hobby!

i'm thinking after i finish all my complex projects, maybe should stop taking months to do a difficult project and i should just return to more simpler things, like just building whats in the box... i'll try but i don't feel satisfied usually compared to what i can do.

As for the Hind, i have no choice but to remove it's exterior paint, fix up some stuff and repaint it with a primer that i can trust, unlike the one i used.

Dont give up after all this work!
You've gotten farther on this and put more detail in on the 1/72 kit than I have on my 1/35th version...
