The passing of our friend Edgar Brooks, Spitfire boffin extraordinaire, has occasioned the call for a memorial campaign. This is it. It will run from 19 November, 2015 through 19 November, 2016. If you want to read the rules and enlist, please go here. Suggestions for ribbons will be gladly accepted.

Let's remember Edgar with a fine showing of Spitfires for the gallery!

Michael,
Thank you for acting so decisively and quickly. I'm heading over and signing up.

With a year long time frame, It gives me the opportunity to finish a few projects, then I'll be able to devote myself to one or two builds specifically for this memorial campaign.

That was kind of my thinking Joel. Given that we have no lead time as we usually do with new campaigns I thought I'd make it last until the first anniversary of his passing to make sure we all had time to give to good builds.

Thanks for setting this campaign up so quickly Michael. Count me in. I think I may do a Spit in 1/32 or even in 1/24 particularly as this is a year long campaign. I noticed the Revell [ex Matchbox] 1/32 Spitfire Mk22 is still widely available so this could be the one for me. I do like the Griffon powered Spits with the larger vertical tails.

That would have also been my suggestion, Michael. Well done! It didn't take me a second to think about joining this campaign. Not sure yet what I will build, but I have several Mk. V and IX in my stash, so I'll find something for sure. Don't know when I'll start with this campaign as I've running some others in 2016. But I'll start and finish in time.

About the ribbon, some of you might remember the campaign for Russell Anderson in 2014, where we had a plain ribbon with just the name on it. How about something like that with just "Edgar" on it? Sorry, but I cannot design a ribbon. Oh, btw, could anyone here post a photo of Edgar? I guess, many of us don't know how he looked like, including me.

I've signed up as I had met Edgar on a few occasions and had regularly conversed with him via email on all manner of things.

Dang it, I already have 2 spits WIP. One from last years club med and the other from a 70th BoB. I can't start another one. 2 many spits, so little time.

Cheers

Sorry Robbie, I refuse to admit the truth of that last statement. There is manifestly no such thing as too many Spitfires!

If it is any consolation Michael, I have 13 Spits in my stash including the 2 on the bench
Even though I may not be joining the campaign, I will surely be lurking...

Cheers

So you can build another one for our campaign and still have an adequate (barely) amount left!

Going with Torsten's ribbon suggestion (slightly modified), what do you all think of this:

 photo Edgar Brooks DFC ribbon_zpsbensftao.jpg

photo Edgar Brooks DFC ribbon small_zpsnze7ny0k.gif

For those not aware, the background is the RAF Distinguished Flying Cross ribbon (or close anyway) which I think is richly deserved by Edgar.

Feel free to express opinions!

Just signed up, got a few Spits and Seafires to choose from in the stash also think the ribbon is very fitting.

I do take it that the Seafire is included in this after all it is a Spit with a hook?

As far as I'm concerned you're good to go with a Seafire.

Of course I'll sign up. How could I not? I learned so much from Edgar, ever tho I only read what he wrote here. His passing really is a blow to all Military Historians.
Michael if you could post a photo of Edgar, that would be nice. As for the campaign ribbon, the DFC with his initials would be perfect.

I met Edgar a few times and he actually stopped me building a Spitfire model. I told of the Mk1 that I was building and that I had scratch built the pump mechanism for the under carriage and that it would be finished in Geoffrey Wellum's markings. He reckoned that, by the time I was talking about, all Spits would have been retro fitted with the select lever. The project went on hold until I could ask the man himself, as he lives 1 minute up the road from me. I finally got the chance earlier this year, but I never got to see Edgar again to be able to tell him of the answer.

A perfect ribbon

Not dim, really. Since this campaign sort of started before it was announced, this IS the campaign thread. And since the name is so long, I didn't have room for "OFFICIAL". Post away here!

I planned my build over five years ago but it never happened, I am now going to use the Revell MkII in 1/32 sacle, backdated to a MkI. I had planned on using the modified Aires MkV cockpit detail set that I bought those years ago and had started to model the idea on the old Revell MkI, but I couldn't find the etched fret! Searching online for a replacement I found that Eduard do a Brassin set for the Revell MkII, so I ordered that. £31.70! more than paid for the kit (£19.95). I will have to modify it as well! More in my build blog When I can get my camera to recognise the card!

Very sad to hear of Edgar's passing.

When I first started posting here he was debating the merits of the Airfix Spitfire Mk XII with a well known "rivet-counter".

Needless to say I had a few good laughs in that thread, so I'll give the Mk XII a go.
