I was in my local hobby shop today getting some paint and supplies. What did I see on the shelf? The Revell reissued of their old 1/32 Huey. Normally I do not buy models there, sorry, but their prices on plastic are ridiculous (Dragon M1A2 SEP v2 - $99.50 ). This one was only $20.99, mislabeled, maybe, maybe not. The kicker for me was that it has markings for Bruce Crandall's MOH ride, Ancient Serpent 6 in the kit. They look good and appear to be complete. I snatched it up. If not for the decals alone.

The boxart is deceiving as it shows a UH-1C Gunship and says it is a UH-1D Huey Gunship (which never existed). The plastic is the same old Revell kit with all the BS gunship parts and no troop seats, but those are easy to scratch up. It builds out of the box into a UH-1H, but can easily be backdated to a UH-1D as MAJ Crandall flew.

Here are the decals. It also has markings for a Canadian SAR bird.

Revell's bogus gunship buildup:

Even though if first came out about 1969, it is still a pretty good kit and can be made into a really nice model with a little work.

Cobra Company and Fireball Modelworks both do a couple resin update sets for it too.

What an awesome find Heavyarty! Always good to walk into your local hobby shop and find a gem hidden away. Felt the same way when I found Dragon's 1st Cav in Nam figure set (ironically enough) hidden under a pile of Masterbox sets.

As for your kit, maybe the manufacturer watched We Were Soldiers recently and loved the part where Maj Crandall flies the UH-1D gunship to support the bayonet attack. Gotta love Hollywood's attention to historical accuracy.

Good luck on the build. If it comes out half as good as your IDF Anafa huey, we're still in for a treat.

Foxtrot1 - It is a nice kit, with work it can be great. It will be a while before I get to this one. It should be good though.

If you're going to do the RCAF bird you're going to need a bit of scratchbuilding to install the WSPS.

Actually, Fireball Modelworks has a set that includes them, and some other goodies.

That would be very useful! Does the kit have any of the rear seats? I got one from the '80s which had the gunship parts but no seats which was quite disappointing.

No, this one only has the bogus gunship parts as well, no troop seats in the back. They can be scratched up pretty easy though. Or you could see if CMK's so-so 1/35 Cargo Bay set, which includes troop seats, would fit in it. The CMK sets were shown here recently by Sherb.

Pity. The RCAF one would also need all the SAR gear scratchbuilt. Luckily there's lots of room back there

There are few pleasures greater than finding a rare, coveted gem at the LHS priced for a song!

Good to see this one back on the market, I have built this one at least 5 times, funny how Revell does such wierd box art though, looks like a C model instead of an H or D that is in the kit.
