Cheers Magnus,

my thought exactly .. I build for the eye and my cabinet.

Still I felt it necessary to explain. AND In know (e.g.) Jean-Lucs builds. These look very clean and nicely contrasted on the camera and very well to the naked eye! I do not know how he does it but it is magnificent... hope I can see his latest works tomorrow in Wilnsdorf (2,5 hour boring Autobahn drive but a nice little show)

all the best

Cheers Magnus!

It was indeed anice show and though the ride back and forth was boring the event was not! I have taken some 170 pictures and mostly just did overviews as there was that much very good stuff in that small hall. Also bought some stuff for one of my next projects, which is nearing 150 Euro now

but back to this one

Sunday evening I worked a bit on the nose thinning down oil cooler in- and outlet. Adding the engine (no update here, just box stock) and closing the front. Yesterday it got some primer to find the last blemishes.

I will be away over the coming days so no further progress for a week or so

all the best

steffen,
The wing really looks fine even with the extra magnification. Once you move past this issue and on with the build, you won't even notice it.

Thanks Joel!

Last Wednesday I gave the lower side a good layer of TS 30 (decanted) and left it to dry while I was home with my parents. When I came back today afternoon I masked the areas that should remain "silver" and airbrushed Kawasaki green onto the model. This is how it looks now:

Leaving it to dry at least until tomorrow evening.

Steffen! Seems as if you actually succeed in pulling this off as a quick build, not a month yet !

Steffen,
Both the top and bottom paint applications look excellent. Since you air brushed on a base of Gloss black on the bottom, is there a reason why you used TS30 decanted, rather then just Alcad 11?

Thanks guys!

Magnus: we will see .. it is only half way

Joel: I wanted to do AS 12 but I mistook the bottles. For metallic finishes black is the best base in any way. Personally I am not a big fan of Alclad as it cracks easily...

Steffen,
I almost always use gloss black under NMF, which these days are Alcads. Don't think I've ever heard anyone say that it cracks or spiders. I actually find it tougher then most enamel paints.

Joel,

I am sure there is something I did wrong, but long story short: it just did not work for me... I still have some bottles and I will use them once in a while, but I did not feel like that this time.

This project is not dropped or forgotten I am just slowly fighting my way through the decals...

Just to show that I'm keeping you company ! I'm very ignorant when it comes to Japanese aircraft (I like them but I don't know a thing about them ) but I see that it has the same insignia on the fin as mine!

Thanks Magnus! It is always nice when someone is interested in my build...

I am not very good at Japanese units and their markings either, but this is Akeno Flying School insignia, where Hinoki was as instructor.

Steffen,
Nice job in working your way through the decaling. They look quite good.

I also no next to nothing about Japanese marking. Of course the same can be said for German WW11 markings as well.

It looks very nice. Decals and final touch-ups are always the hardest part of the build for me. Seeing what others do helps me along.

Thank you guys!! As I wrote, I really appreciate your comments!

decalling is sometimes fun but often work for me: e.g. the red lines are 4 pieces per wing. Also the Lifelike decals look very nice but have a difficult behavior. They are very stiff and strong for quite a while but suddenly they turn into jelly (I use Klear as decal medium).

This happens from one moment to another so I had to be very carfully and still have to do some touch-ups where the decal broke over the bumps on the tail and wobbled on the wing (repositioning of the line was no longer possible, because it was too soft).

I only had limited time this week so I hope I get some progress tomorrow.

cheers

Steffen
P.S. I know a bit or another on German markings (WW2)

Hi Terri,

thanks for checking in! Sadly I have not build anything in the past weeks. Just another one of the psycho downs. I hardly do anything but sleeping, working and eating (in this order) ... and one or another update on my site.

Here is a picture of the current state ...

got a flu breaking out today. Nasty thing already, so progress will probably be slim in the near future.

BTW though I do not like G. posting other peoples work to point out mistakes and has yet to come up with any own model, the observation is correct. No idea if or how I will correct it.

all the best

Steffen

I have posted my own models before:

And I NEVER point out other modeller's mistakes, only manufacturer mistakes (Jean Barby's Me-109G-2 having a flat dihedral being the one and only exception, and I'm sure he didn't hold it against me, although there were plenty of other holy types available to take offense on his behalf)... No modeller has ever complained about my use of their build photos except you, when I pointed out the too thick Tamiya tracks on the 1/48 Pz II, which has nothing to do with your work.

But hey, I'm still glad I helped you notice an issue that helped you with your model...

Hi Steffen,
I've been enjoying watching this build and looking at your other models. I am inexperienced about some model related things, and am very curious about how and why your paint is decanted.

Nice to meet you!

Hi Gary,

acrylic silver/alu tones are not fully satisfiying to me (I have not tried Vallejos though), but the Tamiya rattle can paints look really nice. I decanted them because you cannot control the application as good as with an airbrush. Thats just it.

As for how .. have a look at Brett Greens video: http://www.scaleworkshop.com/workshop/video47bg_1.htm

Hi again

With all the German or British stuff done recently I am in the mood for something different again. I had a good look in my WIP-shelves (! ) and I picked up this model. I had it in my hand one or another time and I have added the fuselage stripes and the machine guns in the cockpit.

Next step will be masking and painting the Rob Taurus vac-canopy. Even more difficult will be cutting it out...

all the best

Steffen,
I'll 2nd what Rowan said. I'm looking forward to you finally finishing this build.

I do recall you saying when you started this build, that you were looking for something new and easy. That was back in April 2015. Funny how things sort of don't workout like we plan them all the time. Believe me, do I know that 1st hand.

Joel
