Welcome to the Official Hot out of the Molds I campaign!

This campaign is for those brand new or re-released kits that you have been waiting FOREVER for (or suddenly appeared and surprised you) and you just need to clear the bench and start on them right away. As a bonus, your build of a brand new kit gives a heads up to those who are thinking of getting it but want to know how it goes together. To that end, seperate build threads in the appropriate KitMaker forum are encouraged, but you should post your start pic and a link to the build in this thread (and hopefully a link back to this thread in your build.) In addition, no ribbon unless you post finished pics in the gallery.

All types of builds are welcome but I'm running the main thread here in AeroScale because that's where I can make any necessary changes.

If you want to sign up and/or read the rules, go here. Looking forward to some great builds of new releases!

Michael, that's ambitious!

I'm at the other end of the spectrum with a tiny airliner kit.
I mentioned Welsh models 1/144 DH Heron kit, which is not yet released, so as a place holder I'll begin with this DHC-8 kit, which was released last fall.

Ill design and print decals for Air Marshall Islands V7-0210

I dunno, Welsh Models seems pretty ambitious to me!

Everyone needs their daily dose of Deutscher explodiertenwurst. Fresh off the presses from 1975 comes the AMT model:

While I'm waiting for Round 2 to send me Hindenberg's missing font wheel, I can dig right into the VC-10ski.

Complete with a look inside the box.

Oh hell here I am thinking about a campaign for the new stuff Airfix, Hobbyboss and the like have been making and lo and behold our illustrious campaign Fuhrer has already come up with it!!! What the Hell????? LOL Damn you Michael ANOTHER campaign to sign up for!

Okay okay I'm in with the new Hobbyboss 1/48 Bv141 (Once it arrives from China!) I seem to remember an Airfix campaign where I was asking (bleating?? whining??) for one of the big boys to make one in 1/48, well the Gods of plastic modelling must have have been listening Hobbyboss have done just that. Hell there are new mould Short Sunderlands, Dornier Do17's, Blenheim Mk IV's the list goes on..... 1/48 scale Hampden torpedo bomber anyone?

This sounds like a great campaign that will have some cool new kits being built.
I just got the new Airfix Blenheim IV, been waiting for that one since it's announcement. I know I'm already signed up to a few campaigns this year but that kit is crying out at me to build it. I'll have to think it over and see if I have time for just one more.

Zvezda's IL-62 is one of the most detailed 1/144 kits I've done. The tiny parts are simply lovely to contemplate, but a trifle difficult to actually manipulate.
I began by gluing the main wheel well parts into the inside of the upper wings. The wing bay walls are mis-numbered on the instruction sheet. Zvezda would have you glue them into the wrong sides, but simply trying them out reveals that there's only one way they can fit. Reverse part numbers C58 and C59 on the instructions.

Next, the clear parts. The tiny little lav windows in the rear fuselage are prone to going spoing out of the tweezers and flying into the mouth of the carpet monster. Luckily a drop of superglue will fill the hole without difficulty, and dry perfectly clear. I gave up on the tiny little windows and used superglue. The long strips are a little warped, but react well to liquid glue.

The cockpit is amazing. I've seen 1/72 cockpits with fewer details.

All of this is likely never to be seen again, but it's fantastically detailed, even down to the difference between the Captain's and First Officer's yokes. The instructions goof again for the centre cockpit jump seat. It's called out as C13 when in reality it's B13 on the sprues.

Looks like an interesting build Jessie. I'm just hoping one day someone will do an RAF VC-10 tanker to this standard. Always wanted to build one of those.
But if I were to paint one grey, apply roundels and squint a little

I bought this kit just before Christmas, Academy's new 1/48 F4-B Phamtom. It will be done as a VF-161 "Chargers" using the Monokio
decal sheet and Edaurd photoetch cockpit set.
I am building it for a friend of mine who flew it in Vietnam off the
USS Constellation.
New kit, new decals, photoetch, can't wait!

Roden has announced a VC-10. So far it's shown in BOAC colours, but I'd be surprised if they don't release it in RAF. Here's hoping they get the engines looking better than the Airfix kit's lumps.

That sounds like good news to me. Even if they don't do a tanker someone like Freightdog models would make a resin conversion for it. I'll keep my eyes peeled when it hits the shelves.

Work resumes on the IL-62. First, the major subassemblies:

I had to pry the fuselage apart half a dozen times to shake put little beads of Liquid Gravity which the superglue hadn't quite managed to grab hold of. Every time I thought I had them all out there would be this annoying little *rattle*...
Therefore Zveada's wonderful fit is a bit spoiled. I bored out the APU exhaust and fitted in a section of styrene tube. That will be trimmed flush and smoothed out once the glue has set.

A peek into the wing root intakes. Zvezda moulded these in two tiny parts which get nearly lost forever. A lot of patience and care is needed to get them properly in place.

Okay, so how does it look with everything hung together?

The stabiliser can be made to move if it's glued carefully. It was often seen in the full nose-up position on the ground

One last look into the cockpit before the cover goes on and all that detail becomes next to invisible

Hey guys,

I'm going to do a build log of the latest AMX from Meng, the AMX-30B2. I will not comment on the accuracy (or lack of it!) of the kit as I am not an expert, but a casual model builder. Teh build log can be found here:

http://armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=231023&page=1#1946301

I built an AMX-30B2 (Heller kit + ADV conversion set) for a friend back in the 90's and after building it, I realized how bad both the kit and conversion set were, I refrained from building one for myself... until now, when I received my kit from Hobby-space.

Let start...

Here is the mandatory unstarted pic with the time and date.

Cheers,

Christian

They're fairly complicated

Okay guys here's my entrant for this build and as per Michael's request the build log can be found here Build log for the HobbyBoss 1/48 Bv141

Here are some pics of the kit for you to see what I'll be working with.

As you can see in this last photo the sprue for the wings is bent to fit inside a box that is slightly to small for it this has imparted a curve to the sprue which may lead to fit issues later in the build only time will tell.

Well with a low parts count things fall together fairly quickly and that's pretty much what's happened. As I thought might happen the wings were warped quite badly on the starboard side, but unnoticeable on the left. I taped everything up with Tamiya masking tape and then taped the starboard wing to the bench in an effort to get it to straighten out. Which was not as successful as I'd hoped but found that bending the wing actually pulled it back into shape but broke the two wing surfaces apart. A little thin cement run into it, then more masking tape, fixed that particular issue.

I've read a couple of build logs that have talked about fit issues with the kit but I've yet to find any. Yes the wing was warped but that was created by not being flat in the box as opposed to the engineering of the kit. The cockpit is a delight well detailed and will look great which is just as well as you can see everything through that glasshouse cockpit! I'll leave the sprue gate attachment and exhaust stack discussion to my build log however.

Here are the pics so far!

And yet still further along, this build has been pretty easy other than the warped wings. Got the majority of the major components together and started to paint the wheel wells etc ready for a few washes to make the detail pop. Here a couple of pics to see where I'm at.

Hi.

I started this kit on the 20th of January. I didn't take a photo of the date since I didn't notice this campaign till today. The kit was released in either June or July of 2014.

Haven't made a lot of progress since things have been hectic with work, but hoping to pick up speed on the build in the coming weeks.

Cheers

Welcome Jeff! Don't forget, everyone in this campaign is encouraged to start an independent build log of their model with a link to the campaign thread so people can see how the new kits build up.
