This is a short film made by Vancouver film student Ken Tsui. It features the models and philosophy of Vancouver IPMS past President Warwick Wright.

I'm not alone! What a great little film. The part about the model never comes out the way you think it is, is so correct. I really think it was a very good primer for those who may not have an appreciation about modeling; on the subject. Thanks for posting Jessica. Again, everyone should watch this video. Russell

I can agree to many of this chap's comments. The one thing that it brought home to me though, was the fact that I REALLY don't like the aspect of getting too serious about the "accuracy" of a model build. Clean glue job. Straight fit of parts. Clean and smooth decals. And above all, a GODD paint job. As to whether or not there are the correct number of rivets, or the proper angle of the landing gear on any given model. can at times take away from the "fun" of building a model.

To each their own I guess. I just hope that there aren't too many judges out there that look a little "too close" at the accuracy(in THEIR minds) of a contest model...?

GREAT film, and well worth taking something from it.

Jessica, thanks for posting the link for this film. I really enjoyed it.


Being a American, and no longer really affiliated with IPMS, I didn't know who Warwick Wright is. Turns out he's about my age, and has a very similar modeling philosophy. It's all about the standards of the finished model.

I did get a laugh out of his modeling buying philosophy: one build, one kit. Sounds like he doesn't have any kind of stash at all. Which speaks volumes on his ability to concentrate for a long period of time on his current build, without giving much thought to the next build. Then his trip to his LHS for his next purchase. Yet he can't understand the need or fascination of his modeling friends to collect dozens & dozens of kits that most will never see the light of day on their workbench.

Wish it was longer. And on youtube so I could watch it on my tv.

I thought it might help my wife understand me more. But it had no effect.


What's that he used to turn the wheels while he painted them? An old vcr motor?

It's really nicely shot and edited, although I'd have liked to have seen Warwick's models in more detail. I don't know his work, but it must be pretty special.

I wish I had a model shop as well stocked as that near me, but I don't think it'd stay in business long if everyone followed Warwick's example and only bought one kit at a time and then spent a year or so working on it! Really, the whole industry relies on nuts like the majority of us buying far more kits than we'll ever build...

This is a good film, short but very nice. Puts a lot of good light on the hobby to those who are not involved yet and explains them why we do this. I think many of us has some internal "need" towards detailing, or precision, or art of painting or anything that makes the pieces of plastic working like a magnet on us.

Maybe to reasonability? I also don't have a big stash and even going to make it smaller by selling few of them. There are just 30 kits at this moment, including few started (Spitfire and Mig-21), few single figures and about 5 or 6 ancient vacuum kits which I'll never build. Just like Warwick I don't understand buying many models knowing they will be never ever build.

Rowan, I guess I'm really lucky, as my almost LHS is stocked like that. Just wish he'd expand to one more line of paint. And yes, if we didn't buy more then we do, he'd soon be history, a sad loss for all.

Frederick, It's really well done. Not a "how to build" video, but a personal philosophy of a well known British modeler. Of course being from the other side of the pond, I have no idea who he is. Will be doing some Googling in a concerted effort to find out more about him.
