CB Model Products have recently added a very affordable top quality punch and die set to their range of modelling tools.

WOW, covers the middle part of the old Waldron sets for about 1/3 the price. Nice.

Hi Rowan,

It really looks like a nice and affordable set of punches. The box is also reminiscent of the Waldron set. I very frequently use my Waldron sets (Precision and Sub-miniature as well), and I was a bit surprised to see that CB Model didn't envisage (or at least I haven't noticed that) that the punches will have tendency to get lost. Some kind of "secure" storage for the punches, instead of having the bunch at one place, would also minimize the danger of loosing the punches, but also would greatly enhance your ability to pick the right one. Are the punches labeled in any way, or do they have an visible marker of their thickness?

Apart from that, it seems like a nice set of punches. Being crazy about tools myself, I will probably get one for myself.

All the best,
Entoni

Hi Entoni

Yes, the packaging is like a Waldron set (that was the first set I bought that I referred to in the review). I have to say I've never lost a punch from that box, so it's not an aspect I picked up on with regard to the style of packaging (unlike a Historex set sold in a simple zip-lock bag where I'm always misplacing punches...)

The punches aren't labelled, but with these sizes it's clear at a glance which fits each hole in the die when you have the set in front of you.

All the best

Rowan

Thanks for the review, Merlin - I ordered a set on the basis of it and am very pleased with it!
A point to note for anyone ordering from the UK, delivery took around 3 weeks (plus an extra week sitting with Royal Mail). I also had to pay an extra £6.50 customs duty and a whopping £8.00 Royal Mail charge for the privilege of paying them the duty and collecting the parcel from them! The set is still worth the money but the additional charge is a bit steep!!

Hello:

Is this set comparable with th Waldron's Precision or Sub-miniature set...?

I mean, the diameter of the punch are more the bigger or the smaller Waldron's set...?

Thanks

Diego

Diego,

It falls roughly in the middle of the Waldron sets, and therefore is a good investment for regular detailing.

All the best,
Entoni
