Before I start, I do want to say that I am still searching this forum for help, but figured I would also ask.

I have been building models for a while now, but as far as painting goes, I have always just done the basic paint job. I have now recently just begun to do resin kits, and found it fun, and adds more realism. But doing so, I now want to weather my tanks to add even more detail.

I have read several post on this, but they all seem geared more towards people who know what to do, or have done it before, not a newbe who has never done it. So most of the stuff seems a little confusing. I am currently building a Dragon M4 Sherman (kit # 6511) and want to weather it and do a snow scheme on it. I am also stationed in Okinawa, so the only brands of paint I have access to is Tamiya color, or Mr. Color. I know tamiya has weathering kits and stuff, but like I said, I have no clue what I really need to do this. So I am looking for some help, or perhaps a post that talks about this pretty good. I am very interested in weathering, and would like any help anyone has to offer. Thanks.

Hi Joshua,
Welcome to Armorama. How to paint and weather an AFV model takes up several books. Tamiya paints are great for airbrushing but lousy for brush painting. Tamiya are acrylic, Gunze Mr. Color are enamels. Enamels are better for brush painting. How to airbrush takes up it's own book, too.
For finishing steps, read through the post at the top of this forum. Then if you have more specific questions, it will be easier to help you.

I suggest you pick up a copy of "Modeling US Armor of World War 2" (Modelling Masterclass) (Hardcover)
by Steven J. Zaloga. It's available heavily discounted through amazon.com.
It will walk you through every aspect of painting and weathering, and conveniently enough, Steven Zaloga prefers Tamiya acrylics for most of his painting, though for weathering, he often uses artists oil paints (which you can find in any art shop) and hobby enamels.

Yes this would be great. Also, start out with artist pastel chalks in earth tones. Also look into the products from MIG. They make really good products and in their forums they give some explanations as to how to use them.
