Hi everyone, i'm back

At Euro this year i was very pleased to buy this lovely figure from the Black Sheep Miniatures stall

after clean-up and undercoating I went back over the fig and tidied it up and filled the eye holes as i want to paint eyes on this chap!

i've never painted a Dennison smock so any comments and help will be appreciated...

also this is my 23 figure using Acrylics, which i tried for the first time one year ago! I gotta say the transition from enamels and oil was suprisingly painless and i like how acrylics perform.

anyhoo here's a pic of our fellow before i primed.

tommorow i will start the eyes and head, with that bowler to follow

About time you got onto another figure mate, for a moment i thought you had given it up and started knitting or something

I gota say mate i love this figure, wish i had thought of it to sculpt, very nice alternative from the norm with the bowler and brolly, also nice pose.
Is this a new kit release ?

Is there a link for `black sheep miniatures` ?

look forward to seeing it develope, as for the dennison good reference is essential, i have some on my hard drive if you need.

Nice looking figure. The sculpting and pose is really great, and the umbrella is a great touch. However I hate the bowler hat, it just doesnt look right. In my opinion, unless its based on an actual picture, it just makes the subject look like a bit of a joke. A red beret with the para wings would look so much better.

Morning Mark,....
mate l think he's a good purchase, he's just that wee bit out side the square...but if memory serves me, a Para officer did appear dress so and carrying a brolly on the bridge at Arnhem and has been documented...
Enjoy yourself painting the smock,.... kilts and cam's etc. l find fun myself, although l prefer to work in oils......
Going to follow this blokes progress......

good stuff cobber...Phil..

I don't think he wore a bowler But there are pics around of Allied Troops wearing Bowlers and Top hats, I think I remember reading about Montgomery making it an offense to wear them- although I think I read that in the Victor comic when I was 8.

These pics are from the old Mundury site and are Polish Para Uniforms but the webbing and Dennison Smock would be the same.

Rob ... this is a sculpt of Major Allison Digby Tatham-Warter see this link for more info http://www.pegasusarchive.org/arnhem/tatham_warter.htm he apparently did wear a bowler at some point in the battle and i think Cornelius Ryann mentions him in " Abridge to far " but i need to find that reference

Phil .... many thanks and i'm very happy with this, it will stand out in my display case

Pat ... thanks for the links

so i've got the face about 2/3 of the way to finished and it's blu tacked on to check context and general look, with the neck stretched out like that it was hard to tell if it was ok.

Simon .... i love the bowler

Guy ... many thanks

Progress ( slow ..... )

this is a really nice sculpt. the dennison smock is very intricate and i've spent about 4 hours just blocking it in!!! next stage is adding the camo colours and then tighten it all up and get the transitions looking nice, about 10 to 15 hours at my snails pace

the hat i'm leaving alone till i weather the figure, i imagine it would be quite dirty by this stage of the battle as indeed would it's wearer.......

This is the first I've seen of this figure - must have overlooked it earlier when browsing EGM's site Love the bowler and brolly! Speaking of the brolly: I trust you'll be going for a bright yellow sun-flower motif, Mark?

looks good mate!

Simon .... see below for the mix for the smock

Rudi ... Many thanks .... LOL the brolly hehe

ok, i have done some work on the camo design ....

A. is the base coat down ... GW Graveyard earth as a Base with Base + AV Light flesh for the high and AV German camo black brown to shade

B. is the green blocked in ( very thinly as i want the baes coats shadeing to show through ) used AV Luftwaffe cam. green

C. shows the brown laid over the design, used AV Burnt umber. some shading started on the top half

D. re-established the base shading and hopefully got the look of a faded denison smock, weathering later will break the design down even more

:)

Nice start to the camo Mark and i like the idea of a faded denison which will suite the figure well.
For me the beret is too red mate, it should be a maroon colour, military police wear red and paras wear maroon, when the maroon beret fades it actually goes more of a pinkish colour.

Steve .... Cheers mate! the beret is just blocked in ATM i need to paint it yet

Marcel ... many thanks

Koen .... thank you

Juilien .... thanks

Engin ... many thank and yes if the figure works out i'd be happy to do an SBS on the camo

Simon .... thank you

so i finally got back to this after the extended goth weekend and a visit to the Nationals at the weekend...

arms are done and work to do on cuffs, hands and gun/brolly .... then i will go back over the greens on the dennison and just add a bit of highlighting i think, looks a bit mushy to me

pants are on the way but need to soften the transitions somewhat....

any way here's a pic..........

Marcel .... thanks

after a period of many distractions i have been at it again

hands are about done and just need weathering with the rest at the end, umbrella is also done and i chose to put a pinstripe onto it for some visual interest. cuffs almost finished and just want a final highlight and wash to tie them down. heads on for good and i've done some work on the belt and holster.... Phew!

picture................
