I've got another post running & the color "Reed Green" has been mentioned several times. Exactly what is "Reed Green" & what paint would be the closest match? I have access to Tamiya, Model Master, & PollyS at my LHS. Thanks for any info!

Sean,
The elusive' Reed green ' is often discussed here and over on the Missing Links figure discussion group. A search there will bring up several pages of threads discussing the 'real' color of.

It's more green and less grey than field drab German uniforms.

I've got a couple of museum photos saved on the HD at home and will post them after I get back from AMPS East if someone does not beat me to it first.

I use a Vallejo base, I know that's not the brand you were looking for.
But the 'real life' garments had a pretty wide range of pigmentation as well

Mike

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs,
perhaps you've misunderstood the situation.

I translated this into the german name. Perhaps "Schilfgrün" can be found in your colors.

A search using "my favourite search-engine" gave me some hits.

Looks like I found a Model Master equivelent someone suggested over on Missing-Lynx. They suggest Model Master SAC Bomber Green. THough it was also agreed that there was a lot of color variations. But at least it's a starting point. Thanks for the help & the pics. Any additional suggestions are more than welcome.

Hi

May I suggest whatever colour you buy for painting the uniforms you don't choose Tamiya. It's brilliant for spraying but gives many modellers problems when trying to brush paint figures. Vallejo would get my recommendation but it sounds like you want to deal with your LHS and they may not carry it.

Alan,
I learned the hard way with brush painting Tamiya!!!!!! Although there are a few colors I still bite the bullet & use with a brush I tend to avoid Tam like the plague when it comes to brush painting. I try to use their rattle can colors & spray the fig 1st & brush with either Model Master or PollyS whenever I can. Thanks for the proaction tip though. It was a bitter pill to swallow the 1st time I tried to use Tam with a brush!!!!!!! I almost quite getting back into the hobby because of it I was so frustrated & PO'd!!!!

The SS field jacket in the photo appears to be a standard Field Gray wool uniform, not the cotton item in Reed Green (the cotton uniform was simplified, and had no pocket pleats).

Whereas the unadorned Feldmutze below is a pretty good representation of 'reed green'...
