Thanks for the interest guys -actually the plan was to post that one only 2 or 3 days before actually starting, but then I liked the poster so much that I posted it in advance Chas you clever boy, but if I only wanted to say that my wife was pregnant I would have put an announcement in the Spare Parts part, not in dioramas -or I would have ask Rudi to do that for me Nope guys that's a real diorama, a very technical one if you ask me, but it seems that half sleeping in the train this morning I found the way of doing things right Still, it's going to be hard! It's hard for me too, as I will have to stay with the idea without doing nothing about it for the next month +! |

Thanks a lot Guy! But now the holidays are over and here I start The Womb 2009 has been the year of Sweden at castle André. So I should model Swedish shouldn't I? Well nope. I will model American. Again sooo Ctulhu, Winona, Scarlett, Tim Burton, Sonic Youth, the nice number of people from this country visiting my website.. ah I start to feel better about this already Contrary to my previous SBS here, this diorama has got enough firepower to wreck a good dozen SUVs in a few seconds, this is going to please some! However some of you will NOT like it, simply because there will be blood in this diorama, and I know how sensible are some model makers who constantly seem to forget the final aim of what they model, oh well, blood comes at the end of the work In that SBS I will also have to buy some stuff online, and what a bloody wallet of wasps are those online modelling things retailers, only trouble so far from 2 different ones One last thing, as usual I have ONE idea, which means that I didn't really thought twice of HOW I would do some of the things I intend to do. Which means that at one point I might put it in the dustbin if I realize I jumped a bridge too far -and You will get all my apologizes if this happens. enough rant, a good diorama starts with a few hours on the computer designing a bit photoetch fret, now can anyone tell what THIS is? |

Hi JB First I would like to say that I think you´re a great artist and I´m looking forward to seeing more of this mysterious diorama Secondly I´ve got some questions for you: 1. What kind of program did you use to create the photo etch fret? Do you think Adobe Illustrator could be used to do this? 2. Do you do the actual etching yourself or do you send your design to some company that does it for you? Jesper |

Wait a minute here....! First you wet everybody's appetite and then you let them wait and suffer.... Then you go about your bussiness and design your own PE?? Then you start writing about blood and lots of firepower, putting people off and yet attrackting them at the same time??? And all of this, because you had a semi-dreamy vision while being bored on a train???? You nut!!! :) But seriously though, you have my complete attention and me clinging on to my chair on this side of the net. Just the PE designing is awesome so far. |

its gonna be a ball turret!!!! like in how death of a ball turret gunner randell jarreel refers to the ball turrety as a womb!!!!
this is the poem im referren to btw... itabout a ball turret gunner gettin killed in a b17....its sad stufff
From my mother's sleep I fell into the State, And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze. Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life, I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters. When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose.

Yes indeed terrible ordeal those guys went through. I've been reading a bio of a lanc tailgunner. The targets they were sent to mean their contribution is not lauded these days. But their bravery is beyond question. Would be pleased to see this if it is indeed a ball turret. And a bit of culture too. |

-wow, thanks for all the response guys -Carlos, thank you! -thanks Andrzej , i am particularly happy of seeing some great train related dioramas here btw -Alexandre, I know you got it -Anirudh thanks a lot!! No not a clock mechanism, though it sure looks like it in places! -oh so soon? John-Paul is the winner of the chocolate medal!! Congratulations! now don't follow this thread too closely as I know you know loads about planes and some details I didn't understand I will simply lost in eerr, the crash. So yes inded guys, i will model (between other things) a ball turret as you can find on a B-17. - Jesper thanks for your comments! I use both Inkscape and illustrator, the first one being free. You need to have a vector graphic software that supports precise measurements and boolean operations. No need to own a recent illustrator either, a version 6 or 7 should be enough -as long as it wants to print the stuff.. Indeed I will develop it myself, I am not a great money spender when it comes to model making. But more on that later as you will see. -Ron, of course i have to leave a bit of the suspense! Even if Jaypee got it, that's not the end of the story! I don't have the time to do something as neat as that great modeler who does his Me-410 over there at Aeroscale, so I have to find other ways but the semi-dreamy vision while being bored in a train is spot on -Erik, second medal of the day You got it too, though that won't be mere illustration. Actually, I had another idea which was very close, and then I read the poem and just fixed the original idea to the poem -that's very well guessed! John-Paul, I also read that ball turret gunners thought they were also the smallest target of the whole plane -thomas, thanks, yes ghastly and very beautifully said. -Bring on the popcorn Scott! that one should be 6 to 10 weeks long. -Koen, same thing! and thanks for popping in too more to show tomorrow morning -same time as today |

Ah JB, It's like going to a movie that you know nothing about and eventually realizing that it's beyond Oscar caliber! There have been some good guesses here so far and I think some are close but I'll wait till there are 'more letters on the board' so to say before I make a guess. I would like to request that at some point perhaps you could make a tutorial/explanation as to how you create your photo etch. A step by step starting with the design and ending with the fret. That would be very interesting I think. Well, kudos to you for keeping this very interesting. Looking forward to further progress
Cheers, Charles
EDIT: oops, apparently we were posting at the same time...I will no longer need to guess!! |

Another medal is going to me for finding a way to be noticed by modeller like JBA (not for my model making, that's different thing, but as a Guy-With-Name-So-Bl#$dy-Difficult-To-Spell for sure ) And most important medal should go to JBA himself for receiving 12 posts after just saying that he starts to work and showing PE parts layout JB, to be honest: I've mentioned choo-choo train for fun but also because some parts of your PE layout reminded me of train wheels - just a simple train of thoughts...
