Ok, lets see.... I have started today my project, it´s Tamiya Kübelwagen type 82, Afrikakorps version. It´s dedicated for the previous Kübelwagen, which I built back in late 70´s as young boy. It was either Airfix or Matchbox kit in 1/76 scale and has vanished a loong time ago. I´ll send pics, when there´s something to report.

I've started the WC 62. The instructions don't give a color for the engine. What should it be?

Here´s my Kübelwagen so far. Not much but atleast something: outer chassis assembled, wheels assembled as front seats. They are not glued in their place, just dry fitting all parts. Some axels and transmission parts are painted as also some interior parts.
This is my first Tamiya kit and have to say, it has been easy and pleasent to build so far..

More to come later...

Started the WC 63. Photos are crappy. I was going to do a build review but I got carried away when I was looking at the parts and started assembling things.

It's a great kit.

I had different plans for this campaign, but fate as it is intervened... and now I am building this kit:

As far as I can see, this is a nicely detailed kit that fits together well. No flash, no bad fitting parts, everything is good! I will be building a WC 63 MG, the one that has the tow cable in front and a machine gun base.

The engine is assembled and as the box states, it is highly detailed. Only missing thing is the wires, don't know if I will bother making these... My fuse box (or whatever you call it in English) is also installed incorrectly it seems.

The assembled chassis with the suspension. Attention is needed here, although the instructions are clear and helpful, if you make a mistake at this stage, the truck will be crooked.

While I was waiting for reference photos for the engine from a friend, I assembled the cargo area. The wood detail is nice, the engineering of the kit makes it a dream to put together.

Russ, building the same kit, that's a problem I encountered as well. I asked a friend who built a WC52 previously and he sent me a lot of photos. In the colored photos, nearly all engines are of a different color. Some are black, others gunmetal, aluminium and some are even green or in OD.

The parts that are "semi-gloss black" or "black" in the instructions are black in the colored photos. All other parts are correctly labeled as well, but no info on the engine block. I decided to paint mine gunmetal.

I never seen that kit before or the brand. Very nice looking kit. I like the more detailed motor. Look forward to seeing the progress.

Emre, I wish I had known you were going to do the same build so I could follow along. I really like this kit. Mine had a little flash, but it was easily removed. I ended up painting the engine block flat OD green, the same color I use as a primer coat. I don't have a clue about wiring the engine so I left mine alone. I saw the Eduard kit and thought about it as I have the WC 51 on order. I had some trouble getting the tow cable assembly together. I ended up drilling through the assembly and inserting a pin to hold it all in place. Here's where I am now with the kit. The cab and wheels are dry fitted (the wheels have a poly cap assembly and can be removed. )

It is coming along nicely.

Well Ross, even I didn't know I was going to build this kit! I visited some friends in another city, they made me buy a kit so that we could build models as a group and this kit is what I ended with. I was originally planning to build a Mercedes Wolfe or M-151.

If you are not hurrying with your build, I can catch up within two days I assume. I am about to start building now and I have about 4 hours before I leave for the university.

Construction is going on at full steam, as I try to catch up with Russ. Joking of course! A friend of mine was looking for an American truck to use in a diorama and when he saw me building this, he was as happy as a man who has found water in the middle of the desert. My project will be shorter than usual, as I will give him my truck in "factory fresh" condition. He will apply weathering as he sees fit.

This is my progress yesterday evening and this morning:

I painted the engine with Humbrol's gunmetal (No.53), but it doesn't look very good. A green color or a dark gunmetal would look much better in my opinion. Anyway, the engine will be covered, so no worries there.

Only the machine gun and its base is left, then I will start painting.

I did some painting and some assembly. It's getting there. I have a small fitting issue forward of the firewall. I didn't want to force anything and end up breaking parts or warping the frame. I have the driver from Tamiya's jeep and think he may work. I'm also experimenting with stowage. Here's how it looks right now.

My WC 51 arrived so what I learn from this kit I can apply on that.

Well, Russ makes progress as fast as I can, so I can't close the gap, eh? I'm away this weekend so I think he will finish ahead.

Got a thin coat of Olive Drab (Gunze's US Army Olive Drab) on everything. If I can find time to work on it tomorrow, I will start playing around with the color, deepen the shadows, fade the color, that sort of thing. If not... well it will have to wait till wednesday.

Since this build will not be full (I will give it to a friend for his diorama, so I will not apply weathering), I might throw in another kit. An M-151 Mutt with a trailer... or a Humvee with a Patriot Launcher? Hmmm what to do...

John, that's a nice looking build. I'm not much for modern stuff but I have always liked the Heavy movers.

Emre, how's it coming along. I just got back to my days off and had the chance to do a little more. Decals are on, figure is getting there, cargo is almost ready. Just need to do some weathering and she'll be done.

The decals are fragile but snugged down well with some microset. The kit gun parts were very brittle so I used one from the Academy MG set.

I'm a bit behind, but I think I'll leave it there... The truck will be leaving this weekend to be completed by my friend.

My problem for this campaign.... Should I build a Hummer Avenger (one that carries anti-air missiles) or a M-151 Mutt with a trailer?
